hey i am 15 years old and 5 foot 4. i am a begginer in atvs and was wondering if a blaster would be a good bike to start on. i know you can find them pretty cheap, i only have about $1600 to spend on it. and when i get more comfortable on it is there a lot of aftermarket parts to make it faster?

thanks

hey man i am 15 to and i am 5"9 and i am trying to sell my blaster for a 450r.. You can buy a cheap 400ex for around 2000 save alittle bit and then you can ride it longer then the blaster

Trust me man a 400ex would be good for you at age 15..trust me if you buy a blaster you will regret it they will rip you around and stuff but get old because u are so big

the 400ex, yes. its not that fast in stock trim. plus its the most reliable out of the 400's. id go with the 400ex

mine doesnt, but ive got 4 grand into mine and thats not including what i bought it for. yes it will stomp any lightly modded 400ex (full system, airfilter, jetted, and cdi box) but its not worth it. i have to run race gas, its not nearly as reliable, plus it s not a honda.

ive ridden blasters and they seem like alot of fun 2 me. also i dont think u could handle a 400ex as a first bike. a 300ex would be better ive had mine 4 years and its never gotten boring. but between a balster and a 400ex i say get a blaster.

i could buy a blaster for a much better price than a 400ex and when i get more comfortable on it i can buy aftermarket parts. that way i dont have to spend as much money up front

well its up to you but IMO its easier to learn the basic riding skills on a 4 stroke. if you are not looking to spend much money up front get a 300ex. they are faster than a stock blaster, but not as fast as a 400ex. they have reverse, electric starting and other user friendly stuff. plus you can mod a 300ex to outrun my blaster, its a lot easier too.

yea man go on ebay and u can find a 250x for about 1000 bucks i bought mine for 900 off ebay. there great quads and u can grow into it. its got alot of power for a 250 too. but dont get me wrong blasters r nice too so get wutever u fell comfortable with

what do you guys think of this bike, [http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1987-honda-250x-runs-great-very-nice-atv-not-300ex_W0QQitemZ130132464394QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6724 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]
it is a 1987 250x, i know you guys said that they have a lot of power for a 250 but would this have too much for me, because of all the mods?? and since this quad is 20 years old will it stay running for at least another 5 years

i would try and see if you could ride them both and then make your decision a 300ex would not be a bad choice or you could get a 250x you can get them pretty cheap and are not much slower than a 300ex and are cheap to mod my buddy has one that is stock and it was a really close to my blaster(full pipe, k&n, wsm high compression piston, reed spacers, razers)

thanks for all the suggestions. i am going to look for a 300ex or 400ex at a good price. it seems like the best choice. and i was also going to try and get nerf bars on it as soon as possible, would that be a good idea or should i spend the money on something else??

that 250x isnt too bad and it would smoke a stock 300ex and probly keep up with a lightly modded 400ex but u can deffinately find one cheaper....the 250x is an awesome bike i had one but if u can find a 400ex for 1500-2000 the get that....if ure lookin to get a 300 i would deffinatly look into the 250x

A 400ex was my first quad. I wanted something faster in a bout a month I built the engine to a 440cc with hotcam full exhaust the whole 9 yeards and still wanted something faster. You will get used to it quick man. A blaster is fun to ride and you can mod them to be super fast. I think it would be just as good to learn on. What ever you buy to start off with you will get tired of and look for something faster soon. So why not spend less money on a blaster? I got mine for 200 bucks and I have 450 in parts. FMF exhaust,30mm keihin,Vforce reeds, reedspacer, EBC Dirt Racer clutch all new bearings, bushings ,cables and a block off kit e I have 650 in it and its a super solid little quad. I have no plans on selling it cause it has alot of potential.

i will have to disagree with you a 250x will not smoke a 300ex they are the same motor almost the 300 is just a little bigger but extremely close, i raced my buddies 250x with my blaster when it was stock and i had a full pipe, k&n filter, reed spacers, razers and we were close and a 300ex will smoke my blaster.

i meant to say stock for stock a 250x will beat a 300ex but yes u r rite it will not smoke it...they have different bores and strokes making the 250x rev faster and have a little higher top speed and the 300ex having more torque
