This message is for Jeff at the Quadshop or anyone else who may know. First off I want to say that these shocks are extremely nice and the service I got was great. I noticed that the adjuster on the front and rear shock rezzies was set on the softest setting. My question is if the shocks are to harsh for me how do I make them softer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Elka sends all their shocks compression and rebound adjustments set at full soft. I always start at 5 clicks in from full soft then adjust from there.

hey jeff, is there any type of break in i should do with my elka's, or should i just put them on and start catching some air with them, and start with the 5 clicks in like you said.

thanks

Could making my shocks to soft cause it to be a rougher ride. Last race i ad my comp at full sof and my preload nut turned down about 3/4 of an inch and when i was riding trough the roots section it looked like i was getting eletricuded (sp) cuz it was so rough . Should i stiffen up the compression a lil?

well the more u take your preload nut DOWN, the stiffer it makes the springs. THat could be why it was rougher

no no, i got my preload pretty high.

thats what i mean, if u tighten your preload it will make the shocks stiffer. If u took your nut, and moved it down 3/4 of an inch from what they came, that would stiffen it up a good bit, i would think so anyways. I dont know, im not an ELKA expert :blah

if i stiffen up the comp, will it be a smoother ride?

i would set your preload to where they had it set. And then if its too soft, ide mess with the compression. But i dont think it would be too super rough if it was too soft. Unless u are bottoming everywhere. But u would know if that was the case. And also if they are too soft, then when u took a turn pretty hard, you would prob. feel your front end dive, and the quad would want to tip on u all the time.

ya, my quad is always trying to 2-wheel threw sharp turns even if i hang all the way off of it, it still 2 wheels

well then, yeah they might be too soft. How old are they. I blew out my Axis shocks a while ago and it was like u are desrcibing, but i thought yours were new??

ya, it sounds like its too soft using up the first spring too fast then moving on to the next stiffer spring. Go in about 5 clicks and try that!

Ok, thanks Extreme and Jeff. My shocks are a couple months old.

Somebody told me the faster i ride, the stiffer i should make them. Is this true?

Just adjust them to were YOU think they feel the best. I run mine soft but everybody has their own way the like them to work.

Let me jump in here if I may; Jeff, I've been told before to adjust my shocks to how "I" like them. But how should a "good "set-up feel? Inother words, if someone is out there riding and getting the crap beat out of them by their suspension and they don't know any better, what would be a benchmark for that same person to judge by and make adjustments to improve the ride? What are characteristics of good feeling suspension?

Well in my opinion a shock should be setup to soak up all the little bumps, stay flat in the turns, resist bottoming on g-outs, and hook up comming out of corners. There is a great articale on Custom Axis web site that explains alot of these questions. I highly reccomend reading it, it applies to all shocks. Does anyone have that link?

Extreme...can you wash quads?:devil

I can WASH with the best of them!!!! :D

I dont have the link, but if u buy there shocks, its in there manual. just go buy a set of there shocks for the manual!;)

yeah i know mine are now. When i first got them they were set up for a C rider. Now im running pretty fast in the A class, so im just outriding them. But oh well, i got the new front end comin soon.
