I went to check the oil in my 400ex and i checked it about 3 weeks ago and i was almost perfect, and i just went to check it again and i wasn't even on the dipstick! It took me a little bit less than a quarter of a quart of oil to get it back to the right oil level. I don't have any smoke at all, and I don't feel any power loss, I'm just worried about the condition of my engine now..

I'm going to be changing my oil tomorrow so i can have some reassurance of knowing I have fresh oil and know i have good oil level, 3 weeks may seem long but it all depends on how long you ride it. I change mine every 20-30 hours.

Did you start it and let it idle for a few minutes before checking it? If you check it cold it will read low.

Without following the oil check procedure you can't get an accurate reading.

ah yes the special procedure. what do you run for oil? I run redline 20-50 since the ol' air cooled 440 gets a little hot:devil: and btw redline rocks

A quarter of a quart, that's nothing. I just added a full quart. Must have ate it or something. Doesn't smoke at all.

I read somewhere that your not suppose to touch the throttle during the procedure.

Mine does the same. I use Valvoline 10W-40. I am always adding oil, no smoke or problems though.
