Running lights??

I just bought the stock on/offswitch for my R, it doesnt have any light on it already so im lost as to where to start.

Do i need a regulator or w.e its called to run them? Also where can i buy some lights for my handle bars?? I lloked nto trail tech on their web site and could not find any for the R.

I went to my local Advance auto parts and got the regular small fog lights for off-road purpose and only spent 20 bucks. They hava a seperate rely (fuse) so that you dont have to worry about over powering your 12 volt battery. They are working great and much, much brighter than the others. Hope this helps you a little.

go to walmart and spend 11 same kit ,what kind of ignition do you have ,stock or aftermarket ,
what was the reason there was no switch to begin with

it just had the teather kill switch so i bought the stock one so i can trun the lights on and off.

you'll definately need to get a voltage regulator to run lights. as mentioned ya can get the low cost lights at wal-mart and use those but, be warned that the OEM system is only 100 watts and most lights are 50-55 watts each(risk of overloading the system). so its best that you only make use of one light(which is plenty brite) or (if ya wanna run two) find some that are 35 watts each.

not sure what type/year stearing stem that you are running but you'll need to fab a bracket to run the lights on the handle bars. i made one for my stock 86 and works great. i had to take a different approach to mounting a bracket on my sons aftermarket anti-vib but turned out ok aswell.

if your harness is hacked you'll need to get the wiring diagram to figure how things hook up and all.

i have the servie manual so i have all the wire diagrams. I wanted to mount them on the bars, so i dont think i would need to do anything to the stem (which is a LSR btw)

With out a regulator does this mean that when ever i rev the beam will get higher and when i am in low rpm is will g et lower?

nope!! it will blow the light/s. as for mounting the lights directly to the handlebars.... i dont think your gonna like that too well. they'll be all in the way.

the best approach imo is to fab a bracket on the bar clamp itself and have a single light directly in front of the bars themselves. i'll post a pic later tonight en show ya what i've come up with on both stock and aftermarket stems.

Yes and no.

This is what would happen IF the light were indestructible. However, as soon as you get to about 2000 rpm, the lights will blow out because they are only designed for 12V, and you would be pushing about 20V.

where can i get one of these regulators? Im guessing they came on the R for it to run lights in the first place right?

the regulators are listed here from time to time and are listed on ebay or give cdb motorsports a try.

if you use the stock light switch, you can use a 55watt light with no other mods. the stock light is listed at 55watts, so you will not run into any problems. the light i use is small but it puts out the amount of light of a 110watt. i just clipped the stock headlight plug off and adde some bullet connectors. its mounted with zip ties to the steering stem( only temporary)
