SO DO YOU THINK THAT A 87 OR AN OLDER ONE LIKE THAT WOULD WORK?

you gotta get a carrier for a 400ex...'99 is the first year they made 'em, so no, an '87 something else ain't gonna fit.

Whoa, I think i misunderstood ya. I thought you meant what year 400ex. Im thinking 86-89 250r's will work, but im not 100% on that one.

250r bearing carriers r the same as 400's. i have a lsr twin row bearing carrier in mine now. listen get lsr or tapered. go with a popular brand. usually they will say 250r/400ex. pack that thing with grease and push it in there. pull it out every 2months or so and clean/grease it and u will be good for almost ever

Tapered carriers eat horsepower for lunch... not a fan

If you get an LSR be sure not to get the cheap one. They have cast ones and billet ones. The cast ones are garbage and everyone I've seen used, the next time it was pulled out it was broke in half.

Just some helpful info... as far as I know, OEM and Baldwin are the only two that use a hardened spacer tube in between the bearings.

I personally run a burgard billet carrier, got it for $135 shipped on ebay.

it it has zerks do it till the grease comes out. if it doesnt have zerks pull the bearing out get some bell ray bearing grease and push it in with your hands and spin the bearings around and pack it some more. simple enough.
