breather hose?

On the 300ex where does the smaller hose go. I have the one that comes off the engine on in its place and the other one that has the down spout in the right place but I can't tell where the one routes.

The breather hose routes up along the right upper frame rail and terminates up near the front of the fuel tank. It doesn't connect to anything. It's just an open breather tube.

So the other tube can just hang down behind the engine just fine. And also should I feel air coming out of the open hose?
