the bolt is hollow, I used a old tie-rod a pair of vise-grips a little torch heat and a 10lb sledge hammer
Put alot of heat on the bushing collar's then while someone hold's the tie-rod with the vise-grips hit it with the sledge
Mine was tight as **** we hit it 20 times or even more but we didn't have to cut it out
My buddy just let his go till you chould move the swing-arm about 3 inches side to side / it came out perfect
Good luck

I had the same problem when removing mine,,,just find an ice pick or rod that you can beat it out with!! We had to beat on mine forever but I didnt have to cut it!!! Definately grease it before you put it back in ,,,,,I just got inside from taking my motor back out of the frame to send back to TC and the bolt slipped right out because we greased it when we put it back together!!

Damn, so what happened to your motor ?

10-23-2002, 01:42 PM
I soaked mine down with PBblaster for a week, turned it and sprayed it down some more,,,beat on it with a punch, a 10 lb sledge,,you name it i did it,,it never moved. good luck,,but I can say cuttin it out is easier than beatin on it for 3 days..

Holy crap rico, why do they get so stuck in there? Cuz it dries out and dirt and crap gets in there and it just like seizes cuz its metal on metal? I should probably grease mine on my 300. I should have yesterday when I put the raptor shock on, but I was running out of time and had to go to drivers ed, lol.

Yeah because TC makes the head gasket by hand..I got the carb fixed now so it shouldnt happen again!

Yeah im gonna talk to him about that.. I also noticed when I took the motor out that the throttle cable from the Lectron was almost burned in half! Looks like ill need a new one of them too!! I guess the motor must be running a bit hotter for it to burn from the top of the head like that!! Guess I need some high temp wire loom or something to cover it,,,I had red wire loom on it but it burnt through that too...

After reading this I am going tp pull my swing arm bolt out and grease it up some. Do I need to disconnect the shock first or can I just remove it grease it and reinstall without having to do anything else?

Thanks for the info

get the rear wheels off the ground first,,I'd also remove the shock just to get it out of the way,,get a few cold ones,,if your old enough,,say a small prayer before you begin and if you have kids make sure their not in the garage with you because odds are you'll be using alot of profanity...:D

Chances are it could give you he!! and chances are it will be no sweat!! Mine is a 2000 model and i really didnt have much of a problem taking it out even the 1st time I done it!! I didnt take my shock off and I didnt have a problem!

Warriorman, I have some Tinner scoops, and a Pingrys oil tank,,,I had the FST oil cooler but Tom made me sell it!!! Im going to run it on alky with a 41mm FCR and that will cool it down tremendously, not to mention add around another 10 hp:)

I went out and tried mine and it moved and slid a few inches out with some minor tapping with a large hammer. Should I go ahead and tap it all the way out and lube the whole thing with some axle grease? Will the swing arm come loose?
On the old enough for beer part. Beer is always a good co-pilot when working on stuff. I'm 28 but pretty new to the quad scene. I used to race hooked up Honda cars but that got to expensive and the cops were always on my *** about mods done to my car. Thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated.

We had one that was stuck, it would turn but not come out. Tap some treads on the ID of the bolt on the right side and use a slide hammer or port a power. It will come right out. ;)
Beating on the bolt that is stuck will cause it to bend and wedge it in the bore. If you pull it out it should come out easier. It is a good idea to pull it out at least once a year to lube it up and check the bearings.

Has anyone drilled a hole in their bolt and used a castle bolt and coter pin?

I was in a race this weekend flying down a corn field, and kept hearing a noise, I stopped and noticed my swing arm bolt was sticking half way out.

I kicked it back in and rode to the pits, but I'm going to find myself a castle bolt and coter pin. I talked to a fewer other racers that have this set up too. Just something to think about when your reinstalling your bolt.

10-30-2002, 07:47 AM
It's amazing some guys pivot bolts just fall out while some of us have to use dynamite to get ours out,,if your happens to be loose and wants to fall out,,consider it a blessing..:o

Mxbubs
10-30-2002, 10:53 AM
No, dont drill in it! Just find a good metric Nylock! It will never come loose!

i don't see why a hole would hurt it. But mybe bubs is right. Also you don't need a castle nut. the nut might loosen but how cares cause if you got the pin in it wont fall out

skinrider440
10-31-2002, 05:29 PM
mine came out easy with a5lb sledge and a 3/8" extension

11-01-2002, 07:40 AM
why don't you want to drill a hole in the bolt?

the reason for the castle nut is because there isn't much bolt left with a regular nut.

i will keep you posted on what i do, i definitely don't want to be flying down a corn field and have the bolt poop out.
