I have a 2005 honda 400ex and would like to upgrade to a 450r. It would be a 2005 450r thats stock.

I would like to know how big of a difference in horsepower and handling.

My thoughts exactly... the 450R has oodles more power, the suspension is years better than the 400ex, however if both have complete aftermarket setups, I've found that the 400ex turned better and had better in air characteristics. I've been on my 450R for a while now and its been a long time since I've been on a 400ex, but I think a lot of it was me just getting used to the new machine. It is longer and wider and just bigger overall so I think in really high speed situations its probably more stable than the old EX too. JMO.

lots more power, but not really "oh my god that is sooooooo much more powerful..."

takes a little bit to get the handling to near what the 400ex is...it has taken me a year and a half and nearly a grand to get it close and as comfortable as i was on my 400ex.

the shocks are better but were too stiff for trails, they work better on an mx track, but with a revalve, they are great on the trails now(the revalve is part part of that grand i mentioned earlier)

Actually the EX has a 1" longer chassis. I measured on both machines, front spindle to rear axle.
