the R is off to a good start. What do you have planned for the motor?

Are almost in the same boat.My 86R sat outside dissassembled for almost four years before i rescued it. It is the true for of the words "basket-case".As it sits right now i have almost 90% of the parts to make a rolling chassis.Frame, arms, stearing stem and other random parts are at bead-blast right now. Once i get the frame back its to fabrication with gussets and finally powder coat.I have more parts from here and ebay comming, so many i had to sit down last night and do a quick inventory otherwise it was going to get away from me....Good luck and i will post pics soon as well....LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY RRRRRR!!!

Honda86: the motor will have an ESR 310 kit with trx5 pipe and silencer, thats what im hoping to have in it when i start riding but ill be somewhat satisfied with a stock motor for a little while lol.

pdxbigfoot: I know how that is man, I buy 90% of my stuff off of ebay and I made a list of everything that I have left to buy on my laptop and its not much at all now. Where it is now is just a fitment thing pretty much to make sure its all going together good. I have my a-arms, tie rods, petcock, grab bar, seat and latches, rear brake hub w/ rotor, axle nut setup, front master cylinder w/ lever and brake lines, EZ clutch perch setup, and im sure some other things are on the way that I cant remember right now lol. I know for sure it will be up and running at the beginning of next year, or thats my deadline im shooting for

Mineralgrey it looks like you have an 88 style Laeger swingarm for your 86 frame. That won't work unless you fab up an 88 rear motor mount to the frame or just don't run a rear motor mount (not sure if that's a good idea or not)

It takes a long time to build something from scratch if budget is an issue.

it is a laeger swingarm, my bad abouy my sig. It is taking me a little while to build this thing but its ok. I posted up about the motor mount already and was told if i dont do any real heavy riding ill be ok but i may go ahead and fab some up

Good eye 250Renvy.

I would go ahead and fab up a rear motor mount. Nothing worse than just getting your R together and then have to turn around and take it back apart to fix something...better safe than sorry.

i decided i am since the motor will not be in for about 6 more months or so. Also what does the rear motor mount for a 88-89 look like? I have only found 86-87 motor mounts.

If you decide to fab up a rear motor mount, most people copy the 88 style but I noticed on the Laeger frames that they don't use that style mount but add one for the bottom. Probably much easier to fab up too. Check out the pic.

86-87 use both bolt holes, 88 only the top and laeger frames only the bottom.

speaking from experience. you deffinately wat to run a rear engine mount, regardless if its the lower or the upper.

the one that 250renvy posted a pic of is deffinately the easiest to fab up. the one for the upper can be a bit tricky and requires that the swinger, shock assembly and the engine mounted to get the right location established.

thanks for that pic. That is very helpful and does look easier to fab up.
