why are almostevery major atv raced on a 450?if they are gonna race and spend all of the money to get more hp out of the engine why dont they just race like a raptor700(saying all the major companies with 450s now had 700's?)

i was just curious of why 450s are so big and popular when there are more powerful atvs out there.

Because they were designed for racing.Their light and fast.

Also the 450 class is the most popular class, and the raptor is too big for it (engine wise)

Bigger engines don't always mean better engines. The larger engines are usually much heavier and don't turn nearly the amount of RPMs that the smaller engines do. The little 450 engines are capable of making more than enough power for most conditions, so their really isn't a reason to sacrifice the benefits of the light and nimble little quads for others that only produce a slight bit more usable power.

CHEVYZ is correct. Look at it as a 650 crotch rocket blowing away an 1100 V-Rod, or comparing an 8 cylinder nascar motor to a 6 cylinder IRL car.

Bigger doesn't mean faster.
