you talkin about real jet ski's or wave runners?

Jet Ski's are teh old school stand up style ones. a wave runner is a more modern sit down one. the ski's are more fun, but a wave runner can be fun to.

I love my 95' Kawasaki 750SXi. If someone said a coin flip will decide if you can only ride stand-ups OR you can only ride dirt bikes & quads, I'd be ok either way.

BTW, stand-ups aren't especially popular anymore but Kawasaki and Yamaha both still make them. Stand-ups aren't the best choice for touring the lake, but they're way more satisfying to ride than a sit-down. Since it takes a while to get the hang of riding a stand-up a lot of folks who try it briefly only experience the hard/frustrating part of stand-ups. My first day on the lake with mine had me wondering if I made the right choice. I'm so glad I stuck with it. It takes at least little dedication to get to the good stuff. And trust me, when it gets good--it's goooooood. Also, stand-ups require quite a bit of fitness to ride for more than 10 minutes at a time. A lot of weekend warrior lake-goers aren't down with that.

Hard to believe these colors were in style even in 95'.

i personally would enjoy sitting down and having my feet placed like i was riding a motorcycle rather then on a slippery wet pad in the back with a 70 hp 2 stroke motor throwing me into the water also jet skis is kawis name for them and every body adopted it

^^ Sounds like someone who's never known the joys of a stand-up! ;) Really though, each type has its place and stand-ups certainly aren't for everyone. I do think plenty of folks think they would prefer a sit-down. Yet if they had the opportunity to spend a weekend (or more) on both types they would actually walk away preferring the stand-up.

In my mind, what puts a stand-up in a whole different world (vs. a sit-down) is the endless satisfaction and challenge of getting the most out of it. The sky is the limit as far as maneuvers and tricks on a stand-up. It's comparatively easy to run out of ways to have fun on a sit-down. If you don't ride a whole lot and mostly just want to get out on the water and cruise around then a sit-down might be a better choice. I'd like to own a sit-down in addition to my stand-up just for dates, so a friend from out of town can spend the day at the lake with me, and that sort of thing.

BTW, there's nothing slippery about the pad I stand on. And, Jet Ski is a registered trademark of Kawasaki; Wave Runner is a registered trademark of Yamaha. Neither name specifically refers to stand-up vs. sit-down.

The material the pad is made out of--it's a synthetic fabric, not hard plastic.

Seriously, don't write-off stand-ups because of what you think you know about them.

This is the only wave runner to own, a '96 Blaster. The SPX jumping was fun to jump when it wasn't broke down! SeaDoo=POS!!

i thought the the sea doo were supercharged? i was thinkin about the fast yamaha or fast honda that are right at about95-98

The Sea-Doo was top dog in the speed department. But according to my May issue of Watercraft Illustrated magazine, Kawasaki's new Ultra 250X out-muscles the RXT in acceleration and top speed.

Both are supercharged four strokes.

I've never ridden a WaveBlaster ^ or a Kawasaki X2 -->

http://www.pwctexas.us/pickawasaki89x2aa.jpg

...but I'm told they're not really like any of the traditional sit-downs available new at dealers these days--a lot more "sporty".

Kawasaki was going to release this updated X2 but I don't think they ever did:

Although the X2's have a "seat" I'm pretty sure you still ride them much like you would a stand-up.

me and my dad are about to get one. Just one to mess around on during those hot days. Only paying 500 for a 89 or 90 kawasaki two stroke. I think its a 700 ? not sure. My dad knows the guy pretty well and was told that it is pretty fast. Comes with a 2 ski trailer too, so when i pay my R off, my dad can go buy a brand new ski. I cant wait!

I also have the FX (for the wife) and a RXP!! The FX is a excellent buy if your looking for comfort and stability, it takes waves great! I call it the Cadillac of jet skis. Now the RXP is amazing, its an animal! Crazy power and speed and more! From what I've read the top speed of both the Kawi and the RXP were the same, 69.2 or 3 mph! But, isn't the Kawi a 4 cyl??

GPracer2500
07-05-2007, 05:52 PM
Yeah, the Kawi Ultra 250X is a 1500cc 4 cylinder.

PWC Illustrated's shootout between the Ultra 250X and the RXT had the 250X getting to 66.86mph and 0-30 in 1.91 seconds. They had the RXT getting to 65.51mph and 0-30 in 2.47 seconds.

Either way that's crazy fast. My 750SXi will go 49.x mph (gps confirmed) and it felt like I was doing about 90. Plenty of days 45'ish is as much as I can get. The conditions have to be just right to get those last couple mph....
