Why does the EX handle better than the R???

because they were built (by honda) to be fast trail riding bikes

I just measured from front spindle to rear axle on both the machines and found a 1" diff in the two. The EX is longer by 1 inch. Would this make a big diff in handling?

if u look at a arms for the 450r they sell a lot of them +1,+2. the 1 is forward and th 2 is out. these r hard to find for 400ex because they have such a long weelbase so the +1 is not needed

if heard people say they both are pretty close in handling stock.

i have both and have spent nearly a grand to make the r close to the ex...most is shock set up/revalving to give the feel that the ex has...i think that a +1 forward a-arm set up would help

its cus the R was meant to be a moto x bike. the 400ex was the return of the desert sport quad. this was meant to do the dunes, thus why it was named king of the dunes on dirt wheels when it first came out in 99. not many bikes handle as well as the ex. ive ridden everything thats come out and the ex still handles better (in the dunes) honda hit a note with that one.

i think what makes a big diffrnece is the ex makes alot of low end torque as well.

Yeah I bet a lot of people want a EX chassis with a r mill in it.
