I'm wondering is the predator comparable with any of the 450's mainly the Yfz and 450r?

ahh ride them all and see what you think.

Everyone will have a diffrent opinion.

My guess

#1 Honda 450
#2 YFZ
#3 Pred

The Predator is a good quad for a big person to ride. The ergonomics are more accommodating to tall riders. It is too heavy to be really competitive on a motocross track but it does well in the woods trails.

They make a kit to reduce the size of the engine displacement from 499cc to 450cc. This still doesn't make the quad any better for MX racing.

Everyone has their own opinions on the subject. As for mine-no, they don't. They have their benefits, like any quad. As said, they are nice for big people, and hold their own in the woods. In the end, though, you still end up with a heavy and usually underpowered bike for most scenarios.

If I had to rate them, it would be the 450r with the YFZ pretty close behind....the Predator a ways down the list.

i dragged a pred....this kid was talking all kind of crap...i swear i have 6 eye witnesses that saw me put 5 on him out the hole and keep on putting distance between the 2 bikes....the guy was so embarrassed he had his bike loaded up and gone before i got back from the end of the strip

he had told me that i was gonna get my feelings hurt....turns out the other way arround

Predators are very very underestimated machines. My buddy has a predator with the baffle out, jetted, and rev box, he spanked my YFZ450 and Raptor 700r with it by about 2 bike lengths, I couldnt believe it. We are both equal riders. And on my 450r I usually edge him out by about a bike length. Predators are wicked machines and deserve some respect. Heres how it goes.

In the woods
1. 450r
2. Predator
3. YFZ450

On a mx track
1. YFZ 450
2. 450r
3. Predator

that seems very fair but why is 450r king in the woods over the popo and yfz? j/w?

yea i was wondering the same thing because the YFZ and the TRX would both be #1 together in the woods.

because look at Bill Balance and Chris Borich. i know mostly its rider but they are fighting back and forth over first.

So both machines are very good IMO.:)

between the R and the YFZ its close (real close)
the pred is going to lose but not by alot

(stock pred is pretty close to the 660 rappy)

a good or bad rider can change it all.
I havnt lost a drag race to a pred or yfz (yet)

the r is rated as a better trail quad because the power hits harder on the bottom end. I love it. People say the second generation R's are faster. I dont like them. power is too smooth. ON the 04/05 the power is like a two stroke. Nice and jumpy :)

predators suck... a 660 raptor is better and faster than a predator... and im talking from personal experience...

and a predator vs a yfz or raptor 700 isnt even a race... its a joke...

and if those are the real results, i think you both are equally bad riders then...

in my experience a 06 trx with an HRC kit and filter, is about equal to a 06 yfz with a filter and baffle removed...

in the earlier years the yfz walks all over the trx, and the 06s of both machines is quite a bit better than the 04-05s...

I would have to disagree

the yfz is good but it will take more than a filter/no baffy to hang with a R with hrc.

I have put it on several yfz's with mods equal to the hrc
(maybe they cant ride)

one claimed to have high comp. piston and cam, he was running yoshi full system, (he couldnt keep up but had a million reasons)

1. cant hook up (we traded sides)
2. the drag strip is too ruff (I was on same strip w/stock shocks)
3. his jetting must be off (well thats the old fail safe)

he couldnt use the weight thing because I had 50 on him.

Its fine to disagree I can take it lol

i've got a guy in my group that has an 06 450r with the HRC kit... he is a dang good rider and has been duning for double digit years... we both run sand stars... i've got about 10 lbs on him... and he doesnt pull me on the hill...

there are only a handfull of people that i would put stock in the race results i have... he is one of them... my good riding buddy also has a yfz, and we have a "non-mod: clause that we do everything to our bikes together, and wont do a mod that the other wont do... basically we have killer races where it is always back and forth, and that is when it is fun so we want to keep it like that... anywho... basically when we do any "testing," he and i will hop on the bikes and test them... either both of us on bikes, or one of us staying on our bike and the other riding another... we've only raced eachother over a thousand times, so we know pretty well how we stack up...

as for the general population that i race down at the dunes, i am confused as to why i fair as good as i do... but there are a handfull of us who have switched quads and raced them, and i base my results off that... i will be doing the cam mod when i go to adjust my valves on saturday, and my HMF full system should be here on monday... we will see what the results are against that same honda when dune season comes...

with rebuilt stock suspension on a 450r, it is amazing in the woods!!!

I think all quads suck until you get some kind of suspension upgrade done to it!!! Atleast the rear shock and linkage!!!

It's the rider! NOT always the machine, I can beat 450's on track or in the woods on my 440EX

Out of my 3 machines, 06' YFZ450, 06' Raptor 700r, and 07' 450er I throw a leg over the 450r before any of the yami's if im gonna be riding in the woods. For one the 450r has alot more much needed low end grunt then the YFZ, and I feel its a stronger hill climber, and just plain faster. Now the 700r is up there in the mix to, but its just to heavy and tippy, so I cant air it out on a lip as good as I can my 450r. I just feel the r is faster in the woods, its my opinion and experience from owning both machines. Its better suited for getting nasty on big hills, and ripping stuff up.
