anyone sppray paint a frame before?

well my stock frame is lookin really really rough , and i really don't want to lay down 300 bucks for pc ,but i can if i have to . will spray paint hold up? i plan on like 5 coats and then clear it , anyone done this before?

I did to my old 300ex, sand down it all to bare metal. Get all of the rust off too. I did two coats of primer. Let it dry for a day. Then I did two coats of spray paint.(http://www.rockymountainatv.com/productDetail.do?navType=type&webTypeId=103&navTitle=Chemicals&webCatId=23&prodFamilyId=3535)
Let it dry for a day. Then I did another two for the next day. I let it sat for 5 days. Then I did three clear coats in one day. (One in the morning, then the afternoon, then at nite.) Then did one more coat then next day. I let it sat for a week. It held up real good and looked awsome too.

the PJ1 factory paint is tough but hard to paint. rustoleum professional is great stuff(cheaper to). i'd recommend getting it sandblasted first, primer, them sand the visible areas real quick with 600 grit wet paper. a couple coats of rustoleum then after it dries get some minwax clear polyeurothane(spray). it comes in gloss and satin and is very durable. after its all dry it'll be very tough and should look great if done properly.

yea my bro did on his drag frame. it looked really good. it held up good after he put a couple coates of clear coate on it

just did it to my R frame. imo, it came out better than the OEM paint. The OEM paint wore off the contact spots the first ride. I have rode it for 2 hours racing and prob another 2 hours just messing around. Looks perfect still. I used Rustroleum textured.

heres another. I love it. If i ever get PC again (only if this turns out like crap after a while) i will def do textured black.

sjorge300ex , how do u think a white would hold up? i want to do black or white , or maybe a red , but don't know if the red or white will look worth a crap after a few rides , also what process did u use?

white. DOESNT Look good with spray paint. I did my entire front of the frame and then strippedit all off. As for process. I used paintstripper to get the paint off, then I blew the entire frame over with a wire wheel attached to my drill. Then I primered with Auto primer. Then i sprayed about 5 coats of textured black. Then the next day, i cleared twice in the morning, twice in the evening. Even the a arms are holding up great.

dont just tear down the frame to paint it. Guesset it while its out. Pay close attention to the top rail frame. Look at the one pic i posted. You might be able tos ee some more of my guessets.

dupi makes some good paint. Dont go with the shiny colors tho. Remember, black and white are the most durable colors.

remeber i don't xc race thow lol , i flattrack race , and my biek never gets anymore than dusty lol i want to go white , but u said it looks bad , what does it like run or what?

wow. sometimes I forget that not everyone races XC...lol. With that being said. I dont think you will have problem with a white. Just make sure you get a high gloss. I personally didnt like it. It didnt look anything like PC white. Just go to walmart or wherever and just be a bunch of colors. Go home and paint the frame in different spots and see which one you like more. Thats what I did. Just make sure that you stripp the frame before primering.
