I've noticed the prices of brand new Honda 400EX's getting slashed over the past few months.
Last year they were $5799
Now $4799!
It's gotta tell you something.
I hear the new Honda Quad has been pushed back a year because of 100,000 unsold 400EX's.

I don't understand what is so wrong with a 400ex. I've had mine for a few months and I love it. everybody talks about honda coming out with a new quad I think it would be cool if they did but if they don't oh well. I think it depends ALOT on the rider how fast a quad is. Sorry just had to get that out.

ha, i'm just beginning to push the limits of mine. I agree though that the motor isn't as entertaining as a ex but I don't find very many instances where I HAVE to have extra power until I get up into 4th gear usually, i'm just happy it isn't like my old blaster where it would practically stop on top of any hill I was climbing and to where I had to push my quad and never myself.

I got my 02 400ex for 5200 and I could of got it for 5k if I wanted to drive to illinois.

But at $4100.00 out the door? That would only be giving 3800.00 for the quad before taxes and document fees. Lets put some common sense to this. The dealer has to purchase these quads and sell them at a profit.
I used tolive in Utah there was an urban legend of a dodge dealer that was selling brand new dodge trucks for $3,500.00 under invoice. I heard this from a friend that purchased a truck there and was absolutley positive about the price.
I tried to explain the whole dealer profit to him, but he kept insisting. Well to make a long story short the dealer was adding $2500.00 onto the original list of the truck for dealer prep fees and such.

Before I purchased my sons trx90 I called no less than 14 different honda dealers for the best out the door cash price. The best deal I found compared to my local dealer was a total of $87.00 cheaper.

Just my 2cents

theres no way dealers don't even get them that cheap

Montgomeryville Cycle Center's got'em for $4499 now at least a dozen in stock, still in the original crates, red or yellow take your pick.
That was last saturday 10/26, probably alot cheaper now!

Negative. The way it works for the folks at Chicago Cycle is they sell them basically at dealer cost. The average markup is around 17-19 %. Some dealers get special pricing from the mfr. due to extremely high volume. High volume = deeper discount. The way this place makes its money is the end of the year kickbacks. Its not a proportionate rate. 1 quad = $50, 2 quads = $100. At certain presets, the dealer's kickback increases. for example, after 200, he gets an additional $20+$50. After, say 400 quads, he gets $20+$20+50 etc etc etc. This guy is making a mint. Dont let em fool ya. I've heard people all the way in Cali ordering from this place, with shipping from somewhere for like $200-250. DAYUM!

I paid $4299 for mine. I had to drive 3 hours but I saved almost $1200.

It doesnt matter if a dealer buys 5 quads from honda or 500, they still pay the same amount for each unit.

I really have a feeling the dealers are loosing money on these. It doesnt matter though. The big money is not made on the sale of the vechile but from the Service Department. Come on 55 bucks an hour for labor!!!

It's true, i know someone who just bought a 03 raptor for 5300 otd from chicago cycle center. They want 4500 for the z's. If you don't believe, look in cycle trader.

Mrusk
You are wrong. When you buy in "Bulk" you save money, so if you buy say 50 400ex at once they will cut you a better deal than the dealer that bought 5 400ex's

jamiesel
03-20-2003, 12:07 PM
I think they should just charge 7500 for the new ones and sell the 400ex for like 4995 and they would sell plenty of 400ex's lots of people are not racers and just casual riders of the dunes. When all the 400ex are sold slash the new ones.

I know that Chicago Cycle does have some awesome prices there. I don't know as low as earlier stated, and I'm not doubting it, but I DO KNOW they will give one hill of a deal though!

There are a lot of un sold 400ex... The price hasn't been real high, considering here in Canada. It's mostly the dealers that keep the prices up...

Thats almost dirt cheap...the 250 is still too high...Honestly I don't think its worth near that... more around $2,600.

not trying to talk trash cause i am a HONDA freak to the core but HONDA is really really lagging way behind !! i have had 400 and was very dissapointed in it !! it didnt handle the way i wanted it didnt have the power i needed and the egronomics just annoyed the SH** out of me !! then i sold it and bought my 250r !!!! now im in love !! this thing rips, it handles, and its comfortable to just ride when im not on the track !! its also very very reliable !! now mind you i started on a blaster that thing was the funniest mid size sport quad ever !! then i stepped to my Banshee(which i still own and love to this day) then to the 400(which i no longer own) then to my 250r !! Honda is missing the boat !! honda needs a good high performance quad and the 450f is the motor thats going to do it !! yamaha is going to build thier famous 450 quad soon(i hope) cause if neither of them do it then these are the only 2 manufacturers that are lagging(horridly) suzuki kawasaki cannondale gas gas all of these are on the ball!! yamaha honda dont know what to say but COME ON !! if honda really has a new quad then all the people that think the 400 is so great please go buy the rest of them so i can get my new 450 quad !! sorry if i stepped on anyones toes but this is just my opinion!!

New Sports Quad releases from manufacturers in last year-year 1/2:

-Suzuki: Quadsport Z400
-Kawasaki: KFX 400; KFX V-Force 700
-Polaris: Predator 500
-Pegasus (formely known as Cannondale): 440 Lineup (Moto, Blaze, Speed, Cannibal, Glamis)
-Gas Gas: 300 2-Stroke; 450 EFI 4-Stroke

Those companies not listed above:
-Honda (The Lawnmower sized 250ex doesnt count, well, it came out in 2001 anyways)
-Yamaha (They really need to dump the Warrior or put a YZ engine in it. I read about one doing a conversion on his...takin out his 105 lbs pos Warrior 1970 Vinatage motor and replacin it with a YZ motor that weighed in at 55lbs and had nearly double the power...give or take a little.)
-Bombardier (If you want to count em as a "big" manufacturer)

I think I got em all.

Just my 2 pennies for the wishing well. :p
