well my lil brother wanted to go back to a 4x4 over his 400ex so we picked up one of the new rancher 420s and we got the manual shift, camo, 26 xtr tires and 108 ss wheels. im pretty impressed its got alot more balls than i thought it would it hangs with our can-am outlander 400, pulls those xtrs really well, the throttle is REALLY light thanks to the efi and its nice and nimble i think he is gonnna get some power madds for it and different grips but other than that seems like a pretty fun little bike

but seriously i sure wasnt expecting it to hang with the outlander and it aint far behind my dads 650 outlander IN ACCELERATION his 650 keeps pulling hard another 15 mph faster than the little 420 tops out it a good 50 mph im pretty impressed.

i dunno why you would go from a 400 sport to a 400 utility semi ... at least get a 700 lol, but sport riding is alot more fun he'll miss the sliding and wheelies, i can even slide on my 250ex which i cant do on my bayou and my 250ex isnt really a sport quad lol

him and his friends go down to the river and like to play in the mud and he'd choose that over his 400ex since it couldnt go down some of the mandatory trials to get where they go and hangout / play in the river and in the mud.

and as for not getting a 700 or sumthing, he is 15 and he didnt want an automatic, this little 420 runs circles around the manual shift foreman 500s and the only other manual shift bigger than the 420 is the articat and they are big and dont handle worth a crap and theyre pretty slow. like i said this 420 can get after it and its alot nimbler than the bigger utes.

by manual you mean electric shift right? cuz i think thats all they make for them or semi theres no way it has a manual clutch

Nice tire kit. I have a 250r and a 700 King Quad. If it came down to choosing one for a long day of riding, I'd choose the 700 without a doubt. Sport bikes are fun for a while until they start nickle and diming. Nothing like locking it in 4wd and hammering thru a mud hole.

I agree, I have a 250x but when I got out on the Big Bear I just have a blast! Theres no way I have that much fun on sport fourwheelers, just making my own trails, messing around in 4wd, or enjoying the scenery (seems like sometimes you don't get that on a sport) it's always fun.

Nice looking bike ... he'll surely have a lot of fun on it.

Getting out of the sport quad stuff and getting onto a 4x4 was the best decision I ever made. I have so much more fun on my Grizzly than I ever did on the YFZ 450. It still has enough speed , yet I can play in the mud puddles , make my own path and throw it into reverse whenever I need it. Plus my girlfriend can tag along for an afternoon ride.
