probs in 1st and 2nd

ok i just took out my 86 r and i noticed 1st and 2nd gear were not there. i mean no powerband and i couldn't hill climb or nothing. 3rd gear wasn't the best either but 4th 5th and 6th gears were almost right on the money. i am not very good with engines so if you could gimme some ideas as far as where to start or what to check i would appreciate all the help........

Alright, Fist off do you have a serivce manual? When you say that you can't hill climb or nothing, do you not have any power at all in these gears? The gears could be worn, broken or the shifter forks could be damaged. You would have to tear into the motor to figure this one out, but I would definatly get a few more opinions. Just telling what I know from my recent rebuild. Hope that helps.
