Well, I asked if you guys thought it was a good idea for someone to make a thread like this and all I heard was yes, so here it is.

I just ordered a HMF slip on and I went with a 165 main and a 48 pilot. After I put it back together it skipped at high RPMS, and a couple members indicated that meant it was rich. I took off the airbox lid and it now runs great. Your looking for a rich brown color on your plug. If its white and chalky, your too lean. If its black and looks like soot, your too rich.

Feel free to let me know if I missed anything or if you have questions.

Tools needed : 6mm wrench or socket/ratchet
8mm or 5/16 wrench orr socket/ratchet
small straight tip screwdriver
a good phillips screwdriver

NOTE : I highly advise having a bolt tray for the small phillips screws and I would bolt whatever you take off back into where it came from once youv'e moved whatever you needed to out of the way. This way you wont lose bolts.

Start by pulling the seat off. The first time I re jetted, I pulled the rear plastics off but then I found you dont need to when I did it this time.

Next take out these bolts in your front plastics - they are 8mm.

then, take the peice of plastic from the lower bolt and fold it up under the frame so you can access the bolts that hold the front of the tank down like this. It is also 8mm.

Then, pop off the side panels that simply pull out of the rubber grommet.

And undo the tank straps on each side. There is a rubber peice on the stud you will have to remove but put it back on after you undo it.

Now you are reay to pull the tank. Make sure your gas is off and pull your fuel line from the carb. Looks like this now.

Here is the top view.

Undo this vent line...

And loosen up the hose clamps on the front and back of the carb. You may have to push some wiring aside and watch for your choke to get snagged but now you should be able to pull it and flip it upside down. Here is the underside. Loosen the 4 philips screw on each corner of the bowl. Make sure to mark or remember where the tabs that hold the vent tube go.

NOTE : The phillips screws holding the bowl onto the carb are butter soft. Its important to have a quality screwdriver when doing this (trust me I rounded 2 off). If you do strip it, they are soft enough that you can tap on the handle of a flatblade screwdriver and make an imprint so you can take it off with a flat blade, or just take them out by gripping the edges with a pair of needle noses.

Now that you have the bowl off you can see your jets. The large hex jet in the middle is your main jet. Remove it with a 6mm. The one DIRECTLY below it is the pilot jet. You can see the 2 small holes in the plastic on each side of it. Remove it with a small flatblade screwdriver. You will know if you have the right one because the pilot jet is about an inch or so long with a bronze tube with small holes in the side of it.

Change them out and tighten them to where there snug, definitely not as tight as you can go but you dont want them vibrating and bacing themselves out.

Now its ready to go back together. Put your metal vent tube tabs back on the bowl and put your 4 screws in...

And for me this was the hardest part. Wrestling your carb back in between the 2 rubber boots, insuring that the boots completely seal the carb and the hose clams are on.

Tighten the hose clamps. If you want you can start the quad now. I set the tank on top of the frame and connected the fuel line and turned it back on without actually securing the tank back down. If something was wrong or off you dont want anymore unessecary work. Dont be alarmed if it doesnt start right away, you most likely leaked out all your fuel when you flippd it upside down.

Now we are back to this point.

The rest is self explanitory. Make sure to get your tank strapped down and the 2 bolts in the front of it, and the 2 bolts back into your front plastics. Put the seat on and your ready to go!

You should add in how to adjust the needle and the fuel screw and explain what each jet does. Other than that great write up and good pics.
