Do the valves on the LTR 450 really have to be adjusted every 15-25 hours. I read it in a review. If that is true that sucks.

After the first 15 to 20 hours I check them but after that I go about 50 hours. I don't race however, so you may want to check more often if you do. I always hear that the shim style valves don't need to be adjusted as often as the others.

What is the gap supposed to be adjusted to on the ltr?

The service manual is kind of vague on the recommended valve inspection/adjustment intervals. It says to check them initially at 1 month and then every 6 months thereafter. They don't say anything about actual hours of operation. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but anyway....the clearance specs are:

intake: 0.10mm - 0.20mm
exhaust: 0.20mm - 0.30mm

They should be checked when the engine is cold.

FWIW, bear in mind that 25 hours of ride time is more than many people realize. It doesn't sound like much, but hook up an hour meter to your ATV and you might be surprised how much riding that actually is.

Thank you very much for the valve gap specs. I am way over due for an adjustment. I will do an adjustment tomorrow. I was wondering since I have about 50 hours on my LTR will my lack of maintenance hurt it in the long run? Thanks again for the specs!
