Check it out.... this is the LTR450Z Limited Edition.

Click me (http://www.media.suzuki.com/mc/index.php?modelid=24&model_year=08)

New ECU programming and updated cam profiles for increased engine output especially at low-to-mid rpm range
New countershaft for improved gear shift feel

Rubber mounted handlebars and textured seat for increased rider comfort and control
Front and rear suspension have new Kashima coating for reduced friction and smooth performance
Updated front and rear suspension settings with larger rear tires and updated swingarm rigidity balance for improved handling and better shock absorbtion

I think there is an LTR250 yet but they haven't shown it.....that and the RMZ250. The RMZ450 has been updated with EFI and a 5 speed tranny.

I like it better than the yellow/blue combo for sure.

The RM-Z450 is the big news from Suzuki (AFAIC).

At last EFI has found it's way into an MX bike available from your local dealer. It's battery'less too. Interesting that it has an aluminum fuel tank--I wonder why? I'd guess it's related to the EFI system's fuel pressure regulation. I wouldn't think an aluminum tank would be lighter than plastic--but maybe [shrug]?? I'm anxious to learn more about the specifics.

whoa whoa. They actually put EFI on the MX bike?! I wonder if its gonna stay on for the pros or not.

gpracer2500, most of the pros run alum. gas tanks carmichel had one on his suzuki, but im not sure of the advantages, i think his was custom made to be lower than stock so the center of gravity is lower, ie better handling

I think it's odd that the LTR has an external fuel pump and the bike internal... I know the KFX450s have an internal pump.....

Yeah, I always thought the fuel pump hanging off the side like it does looked like an afterthought. Ya know--like they almost finished designing it before someone realized they forgot the fuel pump. Freakin' Suzuki. ;)

Interesting.

I picked up some plastic tanks in my garage: stock CR500, stock XR650R, IMS oversized CR250....they're not exactly weightless. Makes me wonder if a welded aluminum tank could actually be lighter.

The pros use custom aluminum ones that are smaller so less gas is less weight, they might weigh less but they are also less capacity and yes they do focus on lowering the mass into the frame.

GPracer2500 - What do you mean by fuel pressure regulation? Its not like the tank is pressurized correct? There is a vent coming right off the cap on the tank so that wouldn't seem correct, but I'm not too familiar with this... any thoughts?

I don't really know what I meant specifically. I wouldn't think the whole tank would be pressureized. Like you said: hard to make sense of that idea. The Rap700 has its fuel pump mounted inside the tank and it's plastic. So I'm not sure I understand why the RMZ's settup couldn't be similar. But then again, the Rap's pump mounts into a hole in the top of the tank and I think the RMZ mounts it's pump in the bottom. So maybe they just needed a really rigid platform for the pump and it just made more sense to do it in aluminum. I'm just guessing.

I thought I read in a dirtrider magazine about rickys custom tank that they werent allowed to hold less than the factory tank.

Maybe they did that for easy access. I mean it is easy to get to and change......In a way I think it was smarter.
