What good does an aftermarket cdi box do for a 300ex? My motor is stock with a sparks pipe, kn filter and jetted.

Most of them increase the rev limit 1000-1500rpm over stock (roughly) and some will also change the timing curve slightly for better performance.

Does it help with topend or speed?

Your money is better spent in a cam or a high compression piston.

I would have to say that a $75 Sparks CDI is a great initial investment. The 300EX is really RPM limited right from the factory. Even a stock 300EX can take advantage of an additional 1000-1500 RPMs. It becomes all that much more important once you start doing other mods.

I would just send it off to Sparks, FST, or another builder to get the stock box modified.
