Choices are

2005 STI or 05 - 06 Pontiac GTO.

I love both these cars. Both are completly diffrent but yet so much the same. GTO is kinda cruiser and the STI is kind a racer type car.

I love them both. Been doing alot of research. I am kinda leaning towards the STI but just seeing which one everyone else likes. When I buy one it will never see winter, it will be my prized toy. Never had a sports car before I am wanting something fast and different.

BTW I like the black and Blue in both.

I'd go with the STI. I dont know alot about the GTO. But I do know its American, which means it wont handle as good as the STI and doesn't have the quality of the STI. And the STI is sexy, especially the blue with gold rims.:eek2:

I personally think the GTO is kinda fugly, but thats just me. But i have always admired the STI's. I'd like to get an STI, but insurance is high enough for me as it is.

With my 88 buick (beater car DD) and my ranger it is accually cheaper for me to have the STI rather then the GTO. BUt not enough for me to just go thaT direction.

Handling: STI
Performance: Good tie. about the same 1/4 speed. The STI loves to lauch with its awd, while the gto loves to rev high.
Durability: Not sure I don't think ether one has been out long enough. But I do know there is a few STIs with over 100k doign just fine.

iwsti.com and ls1gto.com is where I find my info.

never driven a GTO, but one of my friends has an STi and its pretty quick. It's kinda deceiving because its so quiet you don't realize your going fast. But it rides really smooth and handles next to none. Can't go wrong with either.

STI:)

Bro, just got drove both and you will know once right away... even though I think you already know! STI!

I've driven both and there is no comparison. The STI is such a fun car to drive... It eats on gas like no other though.

thats cuz you have a lead foot lol:D

from what I have read they both average around 20 MPG on normal driving.

but this would not be a DD to me so long as it gets over 10MPG I am good.

y not use the sti as a dd, its awd, its awsome rain, snow, sleet, dirtroads.

but the gto's 400hp is nice of ur just going to use it as a nice weather car.

Because I have a beater car. Want to keep the miles off of it. I am sure I will drive it more then what I think.

Reasons not to drive:
Work: I have enough dents on my truck from stupid people. Seems like no matter where i park somone parks next to me.
Rain: Dosen't bother me to drive in the rain but I heard the stock tires suck
Snow: Snow = salt plus I have a 4x4 truck

Both would be fun....really I just need to drive both.

well personally i would take a rear wheel drive sports car over a 4 wd sports car any day of the week. having a 2wd just ups the fun factor:D

y, i mean im all for muscle and everything but a sti can spin the tires just as good.

also have u ever seen a sti do a cyclone (a donut on steroids) it is simply amazing and dizzing at the same time

yeah ive seen em do the cyclones:D

but it seems to me a 2 wd car would be so much more fun cruising the streets. think about it. brake tourqing, throwing it sideways at about any time u want to and plus the donuts even though they might not look near as good lol. all of that would be so much harder in a 4wd car...... I think.

If you think only a RWD car can get sideways, man are you wrong. The STI can get sideways, do donuts etc. Any car can get sideways. Hell, I got my moms beetle sideways a bunch of times.

06-26-2007, 12:01 AM
yeah i know any vehicle can get sideways but certain ones are going to be easier to do it in. a beetle will get sideways i know, but a gto would do it a hell of a lot easier.:D and yes i know a beetle is not a wti, but still get my point?
not trying to dis ur moms car or anything

getting sideways is fun and everything, but an AWD launch is ridiculous.

Definitely go with the STi. Better looks, AWD, better build quality, more comfortable for 4 people...TURBO!

To me, the new GTO is a disgrace to the GTO name and looks way too similar to a Cavalier. There is just nothing special about it...

Here is my STI, it's a blast to drive! Insurance is pretty cheap to, little over $300/6 months and that is with full coverage.

STI all the way! There has been an issue on the GTO with front tires rubbing the struts...not sure if it's been fixed on the '06 but I wouldn't take a chance. GM "quality" (if you want to call it that...lol) won't even compare to the Subaru. If you want american muscle go for a real car from the 60's and 70's. The new goat doesn't even deserve the name. It looks too much like a lumina/impala anyhow.

I wish i could get insurance that cheap... BUT i'm 16. I guarantee my first new car (not for a while most likely) will be either an STi or a Wrangler Unlimited though.

There is a recall out for it not sure if it fixes it or not.

I would love a older car, but the main thing is to have a nice sports car I can drive while getting decent mileage and dosen't need worked on lol

I doubt the new GTO will too get much better mileage than the true "old school" muscle cars. If you want an older car you could always look into a late 80's Grand National...very fast and its a 6 cyl turbo so it's not too bad on gas if you can stay off the go pedal now and then. Personally I think the subaru combines todays technology with some muscle car attitude. A friend of mine owned one and it was a blast to drive although the clutch took a little getting used to. The acceleration was impressive for a 4 cyl especially in tight twisty roads and even in traffic.

I'm sure those are the guys that drive it very easy. I'm guessing the ones that are driving it "normally" are getting closer to 15-17 which by the way is close to what I get out of my v8 4x4 dakota.:ermm: Even my old 77 trans am w/bigblock got 12-15 mpg. 20mpg is not bad if you can stand to drive it that easily. You could hold the STI to the floor all day and probably get 20+mpg.

Normal driving guys are getting 20+ in the GTOs and STIs. They are about the same. My friends GTO he said he avrages 23 MPG.

People that drive in the city are saying they get about 15 - 17.

STIs are more of a HO engine. They dont get as good as you would think

I think my buddy said his subaru was getting around 25mpg and he didn't drive it easy at all. 20+mpg isn't bad for a performance v8. I wish I could get that mileage out of my truck. Dollar for dollar I would still take the STI any day. GM's quality has gone downhill big time in the last few years. I had a Chevy Colorado that I had to file lemon law on so I guess I'm a bit biased against GM even though our 2000 monte has been a good car.
