Hey everyone I am looking at a newer car and I am interested in jetta 1.8t's. I am looking for something reliable, fairly quick (not a rocket), and and good on gas. Is this the car for me? Please give me any info you have on them if you have experience with them.

This car will exceed your expecations except for the not a rocket category cause they are a rocket...

My buddy has an 03 with the 1.8t and an APR tuned chip, holy moly the chips add a ton off power, they are very quick, handle excellent, and no matter how hard he drives it it still pulls a minimum of 29mpg.

It holds up very well too, just replaced the rotors and pads at 90,xxx miles, they were original, and he is not easy on them!

thanks for the link, but that is a little too far away. Your friend has a very nice car though. Hopefully he has good luck selling it.

400exrider707 do you by any chance know what octane your friend runs in his jetta. Does upgrading the ecu by any chance make it need to run on higher octane fuel.

It depends what tune you get he has the 93 octane tune, but even at the higher price of gas, 29mpg is pretty cool even when you pretty much run WOT everywhere...

His has a two tune chip so you can turn it back to stock at any time which you can get away with 87 though I believe VW recommends 91.

stock 1.8's are fast but no where near a rocket.

there nice cars and for a grand in extras you can have a very quick car that will beat up on vr's anyday.

A chip on a non turbo car isn't quite as big of an improvement as a chip on a turbo car...

My buddies chipped 1.8T is turning about 19.5 lbs of boost.

it's a great car. I'm looking for one myself. I was going to buy a Lancer EVO 9 when I got get back from Iraq, but my girl is pregnant and we are getting married so I need a 4 door, lol.

A friend of mine has one and it's pretty quick. I like the 1.8t GLI. Definitely the best looking model. Best part is it's a very well built car

Get a 4 door GTI, sweet cars and pretty quick off the showroom floor, chip them and they're beasts. APR claims 303ft-lbs on the 93 tune. Thats impressive for a 2.0 turbo.

It seems like a lot of people are in the same situation I am in. I didnt realize that vw made a 2.0 turbo.

All of the new VW's have new motors, its either 2.0 turbo or 2.5 five cylinder. Its a lambo V10 cut in half essentially.
