i have a 01 400ex i bought it came with race cut fenders and no lights, i went and bought two little halogen fog lights for a car and mounths them over the front shocks, they work great, but when you have them on they drain the battery, its fine when running, but when you go to start it next its a low charge. they are drawing too much i guess, how can i fix this anyone know?? thanks!

btw... the wiring for the old lights was gone, so i just hooked them up direct, with a toggle switch

ur fourwheeler hasd a magneto (altinator) and as lon gas its running it will be fine. (should) if u turn off with lighst on it will drain ur battery. its obvious

im not stupid.. i know what a magneto is and i know that would drain my battery. what im saying is when i shut the quad off, i also shut the lights off, and the battery is drained.

like they are drawing too much, i just wanna know if theres any kind of regulator or relay that could control it and not drain the battery

check your wireing. its most likely your negative wire. it could be split somewhere causing it to not recieve the negative.

my negative is good. I just wired it today and its ground right to the motor.

dude i had the same prob you did, i baught some 20 buck fog lights for night riding. hooke dem up fine went riding, had ewm on, shutthem off, then my quad, battery was dead.....you need a heavy duty stator, its th eonly thing that will help, it doesnt put out enough in stock form to run them and charge the battery, the ex itself stator doesnt put out enough juice to run those let alone charge the battery, so they run off the batt when the quads running. check rockymoutainatv.com they have em for 125.

What is the wattage on those lights? If you are running two 55w or 65W lights, you are going to have some problems.

A heavy duty stator like at RockyMountain should have enough output for your lights, but you should wire in a relay to protect your switch.

Get the HD stator like TYayo420 said, or run lower wattage lights.

I would think that too much draw on your stock stator could burn something out as well. Just a guess.

Just buy stock lights on this sight...
Your lights should not be more than 35 watts or they will drain your battery.
Take the bulb out and look at it, it should say...
