Change out your piston for a new one. Ive had my yamaha yz250f for 7 years now and i havent ever had to get a new one and I ride it like mad. I had the whole engine pulled apart so I could fix a trans problem. The trans problem was the only thing that I really ever had major to do to it. I took it to North American Warhorse to get a bearing pulled out so i ask him how my piston look and he said its in great shape still. I was mad surprised its been 7 years and alot of abuse. I guess it just goes to show do your normal maintaining and it will last a while.

My dad does my 250f top end every 6 weeks or so. But I also put a good 25 hours a week on my bike. I change my tranny oil every 3 rides my motor every 10 hours.

Is that necessary or just a precaution kind of thing just to make sure its running its best? Just curious.

Jimmy The oil is necessary, riding it hard and as often as I do you really need to keep that oil fresh. But the pistons are to keep it fresh and running strong, and less likely to blow up which = big dollars. I also check my valves to make sure they're ok or if i need to shim them every 5 rides or so too because that's also very important and can cause big problems.

I have never had one problems with my valves and i never checked them also I usually change my oil when its dirty i run amsoil and again never have had a problem and like i first said I have 7 years on my piston riding tracks and trails from the first sign of open ground with ice and snow still hangin around until the snow is just about to fall.

damn 7 years an no valve adjustemt i check mine like every week. theres no way your pounding down on that bike and the valves stay in spec for 7 years unless u have the god of 250fs lol mine need to be done like every 15 hours or so but i keep em in spec. thats cool tho 7 years with that motorwork and no valve issues and still a fresh top end damnn how often do u ride?
