hey guys i was lookin into buying a new 2007 450R and have a few questions.

How reliable are they for trail riding?
Are there any problems with them?
do they handle like a 400EX or are they real wheelie happy?
are they easy to work on like a 400?

i was thinking about setting my 400EX out in the yard with a for sale sign on it and wanting to buy a new 450 but i need alot of info on the 450's before i make a final decision.

I have a 07 ER...

so far 0 problems whatsoever with it

the worst thing is that the clutch was SUPER touchy and easy to stall. If I wasnt on it over half throttle it seemed itd die. Then I adjusted it and played with it and got it right, its fine now.

They arent wheelie happy. You can pin it and it scoots. When you want it to its not hard at all though. The ER is weird on starting compared to others, I didnt like it at first but I learned to use it right and glad I didnt get a kicker.

Trail riding their good, real responsive and move quick down the trail. One thing I need to change is drop a front tooth because its chugging and doesnt like being lugged. I use my clutch and its no problem then.

I have an 04 450r so mine is kick only and I love it that way. No battery to ever worry about.

as for handling both the 400 and 450 needed to be widened for my liking. Once I widened both they handle very well. I do say the 450r handles a bit better than the 400, and has alot more power than the 400 does even after I put a piston and cam in the 400.

the biggest issue i'm debating with myself from going ahead and selling my 400 is:

my 400 runs like brand new do i really need a 450?

Needing a 450 is up to you. You'll love a new kicker. However you might have a hard time finding an 07 kicker now that the 08's are coming out.

another question i have is will they run on high grade pump gas or do you have to run race gas?

You want to run 93 octane. You don't have to run race gas...

I have an 04 450r..... my friend has a 400ex... both great machines... as previously stated both quads need to be widened in my opinion but the torque a 450r has over a 400ex is amazing..... both fun to ride the 450r also has a little better suspension in stock form....
