this is looking up into the exhaust port. That mound is the rod breaking up through the bottom of the exhaust port.

oh damn! What caused that to happen?

The wristpin end of the rod broke and stuck through the base of the cylinder and into the bottom of the exhaust port.

I'll be the first to say it, was it a Hotrod?

Mike can give all the details later but I think it was a Pro-X rod.

86 Quad R won't want to see this. That's the rod he always preaches about using when rebuilding an oem crank. Did you find out if you had a right side case half for an 86 in good shape?

I do have a good one but I might need it for Mikes engine because we haven't split the cases yet to see what type of damage was done to the bottom end.

A little JB weld will fix that right up.

That is going to cost some money to fix. I went through a simular break down on my 330 PV. Ripped the rod in half (Pro-X rod) on stock crank. Damaged the cases and destroyed the sleeve. The motor is back together with a 4mm Hotrod stroker with the 330pv topend.

yeeeeee ouch!! first time i've ever seen one rip the rod apart like that on an R, regardless of the rod manufactorer. i've seen stroker banshee's do it plenty times.

I think your gonna need a bench vise to straighten that rod, except the new thing these days is the cocked look, so yeh, he would be cool then.

And sorry dude, that SUX.
