hey im buying a new chain for my 300ex and i was wondering what size it is? i think its a 520/86 is this correct??thanks

yes stock size is 520x86

ok thats what i thought also i changed my gearing to 15/36 will this make a difference in chain size?

yes it will but i believe that 14/36 takes a stock size chain so 15/36 should be maybe a link or two longer

My 300ex runs 14/36 and I had to take a couple links out to make it an 84 so it would fit properly. What I do when I buy a chain I just get the stock length and make it the right length. In your case get an 86 so you know it will be long enough just in case. You can always take lengths out.


I don't see how you are fitting a 15T front sprocket on a 300ex. I tried it and the chain would hit the case, it wouldn't even spin.

Can you get a 35T rear sprocket for a 300ex? Has anyone ever ran 13/35 on a 300ex?

yah my bad i have 14/36 so i should go with the stock length then?

Yea get the stock length, then just take a couple links out to make it an 84. Thats what I have to do with 14/36 gearing on my 300ex.
