i have a blownb up 2004 400ex. i would have bought a 450r except i am 14 and cannot race 450r's on track. i have to replace my top end but i dont nbo what to buy. i could buy a 440 bore but then i wouldnt be able to ride off treack cuz it would over heat. i could do hi comp pistobn but i dont no if it would be fast enough. i guess what im asking is a hi comp piston (11:1) gonna supply enough power to hang with a 450r on a track?

when i used to race my 400ex..the engine was stock but i had pretty much every thing else done with it...and i could beat 450s...its pretty much the rider....but i would do somehting to the engine.

hey man your gona have to do alot more to your engine to "hang" with a 450R. reguardless 450R have more power stock than a fairly souped up 400ex, so if you want to race against 450R's your gonna be outmatched no matter what you do. But if your pretty decent then it would close the gap a litle I guess 0_o

the 440 wont overheat. and if you really wanna make sure it doesnt buy a bigger oil tank and cooler.

Stick with the stock bore..big bores can be a pain if you don't do them right. Get a higher compression piston and do some other mods while it is down. Port work does wonders, and so does an aftermarket carb. How much are you looking to spend?

go with a duncan 440 kit w\ stage 2 or 3 cam, install a perma cool oil cooler set up, 450 carb, and you should be fast enough now.

yeah its all rider man. I have beaten a many of 450s on the motox track with my stock 400. i think i would stick with the stock bore because in the end it will make you that much better when you do get a 450.

If you want to win a drag race any of the 450s will blow a 400 440 away unless you drop ALOT of cash but on the track I have seen a 300ex beat a 400ex both stock. (rider) thats what racing is about you not the bike. I have a 406 11.1 tc port tc cam hmf slip on fmf header (powerboamb) procom revbox valve work tom told me that I need A carb dident have the cash at the time but I think hes right. anyways my buddy has a yfz just slipon he gets me buy about a quad and a half but when I ride hes quad the power is so much better than my 400 feels like he should beat me by more! stay with a small bore lot less stress and if you blow it again you can just bore it to a 416 not have to get a new sleve and than bore! save money later on!

j/w if you cant race a 450 on the track, why would you be racing against em? unles its a open class but then you can run anything.

c class (beginners) runs 250-450 cc 2 and 4 strokes. must be 16 to run 450r

The 440 is NOT rock solid. You are going to need at least heavy duty studs a good (440) racing gasket if you want to keep it from blowing gaskets left and right.

I have never blown a head gasket and I have a big bore kit, and I have never had a problem with over heating and I ride the dunes alot, a 450 r is alot of bike, you build an ex right you will hold your own with an average raptor 660 or 450r. The best thing you can do is wait and buy a 450 r, or spend a little and get a good ex.

go with like a 406 or 416 and then go out to the track and practice a kid around here has like a stock blaster and then he smokes all the kids with suped up 300's on the track like a few guys said its the rider as long as the quads are farely close in power

seriously though their isn't a ex i know that will even think of hanging with a 450r and if they do hang with a 450r they've spent enough money to just go out and buy the 450r.I would like to know though who has a 400ex that will hang with an R cause i would like to know their mods and how much they spent to get it that way cause that would be cool if you could hang with a 450r.
