Electric Starter RECALL......

Hey you 450ER (Electric start models) owners there is a new recall for the troublesome E-start that some of you have had problems with not working correctly and/or giving out. A friend of mine that works at the local HONDA dealer told me the recall just came out. So you guys with the ER models should be getting a letter soon. I didn't ask what year this affects. I'm guessing '06s only but I'm not sure.

I work for a Honda automotive dealer and called the Honda motorcycle division and they said there is no recall there is a product update for 06/07 starter reduction gear and it is only a update not a recall, unless the recall is not finalized yet this is all there is.:)

It is a product update, I work at a honda dealership and it came out today to us. It affects:
2006 TRX450er(A type)
JH2TE320*6K000019 thru JH2TE320*6K015225
2007 TRX450er(A type)
JH2TE320*7K100001 thru JH2TE320*7K107960
2007 TREX450er(3A type, flame)
JH2TE327*7K000001 thru JH2TE327*7K005099
(*) denotes check digit

Everyone that owns an effected model should be getting a letter to have there reduction gear replaced and if the starter gear is damaged it will also be replaced. I hope I have helped anyone out that needed this information.

My bad.....it's almost the same thing. I had my buddys 06 ER torn down to replace the one way starting clutch, cuz it wasn't catching and I ordered the starting clutch, a gasket and an o-ring. An hour later my buddy calls me back and tells me about the update thinking it was a recall. So he cancels the order....I took the starter clutch out and it shows some abnormal wear. So... I'm going to have to re-order the starter clutch and have them put it in while they do the update.

yup there is a recall on them because work a hond dealer and we got our friday. and they have a recall on the kfx450r already for the fuel pump leak and cause to catch fire i think the i just funny.

funny , my friend was in the same situation as ^^^..


he ordered the parts last week... starter clutch, outer holder, starter gear and needle bearing.....

will he qualify for reinburishment??

if have a 2007 that does not match these numbers and it has a 5 year warrenty on it do you think they will do the upgrade.

If ur bike doesn't match it probably means it already has the updated part.

Or else why wouldn't it be included? Only reason I could think of.

i got in july of 2006 almost a year ago.well im taking it to honda and droping it off so i can get the one way bearing replaced.it's been starting real ruff for 2 months and now it wont even start.how long do you guy's think i will be quadless.im tired of going to places or races and wondering if the dang thang is going to start.

You won't be quadless long. I had my buddies ER apart in like 45mins (if that).... and the parts they have to replace are easy to get to.

I was havin problems w/ my starter a few months ago and my dealer talked Honda into replacing all the starter parts again for me (it went out 2 months after I bought it). I picked it up last Friday and they told me they just received the recal info and they already had put the updated parts in my quad. I thought that was pretty good that they replaced my starter parts after it was a year out of warranty. But Im guessin they already knew they were gonna recal em when they decided to fix mine for free.

^^^ good info. I went to my dealer they handed me the
Service update letter. then told me they could have mine done in about an hour.you have till aug. 08
to get the work done.
