Ok so when i was Trying to install the TC Racing National Cam in my 440ex today I took the Cam out without lining up the TDC mark in the timing window, And i dont remember witch way the cam was facing, How ever i do know that at true TDC the cam lobes should be facing down, So. If i put the cam back in and line up the timing marks with the cam lobes facing down, Should i be ok?? If not what do i need to do to get the cam set right. I hope this isn't to hard to understand...

Thanks, Nick

take the spark plug out and put a flat head screw driver down the hole (gently). crank the engine over slowly( the easiest way is to lift the rear of the bike off the ground, put it in gear and spin the rear tires...it work when the plug is out cuz there is no compression). as you are cranking the engine watch the screwdriver come up the cylinder and when it starts to go down you know where TDC is...

I did do that and my marks lined up, But all i am really worried about is line up the marks using the screwdriver, And set the cam in this way will my cam timing be off and firing at the wrong time???

honestly, i think i was told on this site that on the 400ex it doesn't matter if the cam is up or down...i dont know how true that is though. i would PM gpracer2500 and ask him. the guy is like a walking dictionary when it comes to engines.

the lobes should be facing down, basically not putting any tension on the valves. To get the piston at tdc, take out the two plugs on the flywheel side of the engine and line the T mark up with the notch on the case. You cant have it 180 out, its impossible.

The 400EX can be 180 degrees from "normal" and still run, it don't care
