okay, so i pulled my head off to do a valve job becuase i have no clearance, but now im second guessing myself! The bike will not start... it had 1.65mm shims in the intake and i could not even fit a .003mm feeler guage between, so what i did was went all the way to a 3.5mm shim to simply see if i would ever get clearance with the old '04 valves and springs, and i still got nothing.... NOW, my question is, should i have went with a smaller shim than a 1.65mm or is going with a larger one like i did the right thing to do?? now after thinking about it i think i did the wrong thing... maybe i dont need a valve job after all, the head is off and the valves move freely when pressure is applied and the seating surfaces look top notch! let me know what you guys have to say... im not wasting $100.00 on a valve job i do not need. thanks!

Yes as the valves wear it creates less clearance so putting a large shim in there will leave the valve open while putting a smaller shim will allow the valve to close all the way so you can get propper clearance for the cam lobe.
