Im making a dune buggy and have a question. What are some small rear wheel drive cars that i can get for cheap? I can get a 1978 Ford F 150 for $150 but i think it is too big.

Well a F-150 wouldnt really be a buggy but i love the late 70's Ford pickups would love to make one into a dune truck. If you have the resources go for it but i guess it depends on if you want a car like buggy ( old VW bug) or a sand rail or a truck.

VW, all the way for buggies:D I'd go with an 1835, great power to weight ratio. Also, try to find a flathead. Maybe an old type 3, I pulled a 1600 flathead that I'm going to make an 1835 and an independent rear end /transaxle unit that hooks right up. I bet you could find one of the ugly little cars running pretty cheap, good luck.

I know a guy that had a vw sitting in his drive for about 8yrs no wheels, never got drove just saw him workin on it every now and then.A few months ago I look out in the street, theres the little ugly vw, running in his drive way. I have never talked to the guy before but i went over there and said hey. He turns out to be a 60 or so year old engineer, and has a good bit o knowlege on cars, turns out the car never had an engine, he got a new job about 6 months ago and started restoring it. He sold it a few weeks ago, partly finished but it looked like it could have been a good dune car. He lives in Orangeburg, SC(gEtTo'es town in da world)

Cylinders are too thin on a 1835. For a small motor I would go with either a 1776 or a 1914. for the sand you need to go bigger.
