I went to the local Kawi shop today and sat on a few bikes....the one that i really felt best on was the KX250F.

Does anyone here have any input on thier reliability or thier power output?

Right now im used to a 440ex, built race motor mind you!

Im 6'0" about 135 pounds and ive had bikes before...

Basiclly, any input on that bike and other 250f's would be appreciated!:)

Thanks
Justin

At that weight any of them should haul you around just fine.

416 i'm not sure what your 440 makes for hp? but those kx250f's put out about 35 stock and since its a dirtbike it still sounfs pretty good completely stock, if i had to guess your quad probably puts out around 35 and it weighs probably 395 - 405 pounds when full with gas and oil all that good stuff, plus you with gear can you say 530 - 540 pounds be lugged around on 35 horsepower now if your on a bike its more like 350 ish pounds being thrown around with 35 horsepower, and then what comes into factor with that is the bikes gunna rev faster and higher, it has longer, lighter gears which allows you to wind it ou more obtaining more speed and the reason the bike can lug those gears is it has alot less weight and if you pull off a dirtbike rear wheel/tire it will prolly weigh 20 pounds max including sprocket and brake, now the rear end on a quad, much more weight at least 45 pounds, so it takes less energy/power from the engine just to get those parts movingand all that adds up to big power and speed gains - sorry for the long post

all the 250f's are very fast out of the box. If i was to get a 250f itd either be the yami or the kawi.

the new kxf's are awesome bikes. They fixed all the problems from the earlier models. But now u cant really go wrong with either 250f now.

hmm depending on the year all of the 250fs from every year will walk over your 440 no effence im picking up a 07 kx250f soon and keeping my 05 crf250 too , its wat you like all the bikes seem to rev real quick and are very competive stock with somebody who can ride them right , my crf is fully built so it realy dont compare. but stock all of them are nice i say the new kawis are the best, the new crfs suck imo , the yamis are ight and the susuckis enought said lol.

heres my crf (before the new exhaust)

well i have heard nothing but good things about the 06' and up kx250fs, i used to have a crf250r and i loved it, but if i was to get a new bike it would probably be the yamaha or kawi.

What problems did they have with the earlier 04-05 kx250f. I am thinking about buying a lightly used one bit also keep my other three toys.....

if u have ridden bikes before and ur used to them u should be fine b/c the newer bikes handle 3 times better. and the power diff between the 400 and 250 will be like night and day, i had a built 450r with a 13.1:5 pistion and the works done to it, i bet my 06 crf250 is still quicker, these 250s rev so damn quick its nuts,

Im sure its gonna be a great deal of difference over my 440.

Right now, and this is what the dyno said....my engine is making about 46 horse at the crank, which translates to 40-41ish at the rear wheels....its a quick quad, but my local tracks arent allowing quads anymore....

If ya cant beat em, join em.....:p

So far im diggin on the idea of a new 07'....my dealer quoted me a price for a brand new 07' KX250F.....he told me about 4950 OTD

Paying with cash.....when i got the bike, the 440 will be paying for it.....:(

and all of this was trying to get to what?

Personally, I'm not big on the whole 4 stroke mx bike. Too many things are not perfected on them. Keep up the maintence on them and you should be fine. Have you tried a 125 or 250?

fyi, the earlier kxf/rmz did not have valve problems. They had week transmissions and overheated.

Well I will agree with you on the crf's sucking and kawie's being good. I've seen a good 15 crfs just eat valves. The 07 yzfs also have clutch problems.

416, If I were to buy a 250f, I'd look towards the 07 kxf, the 05 yzf, or a 06 and up rmz. The 05 and down rmz/kxf (like I said in my post above) had weak transmissions and overheated. The overheating can be solved by switching the cap from a 2.1 to a 2.6, but the tranny will require a bit more work. The crf's are great bikes IMO the best overall, when they run.
