i think it'd be a mistake getting anything over a 600 race bike for your first bike.

My buddy bought a vtr1000 superhawk for his first bike and he's a small guy, about 150lbs or maybe less, and he rides the hell out of the thing. Its a 996 V-twin engine and he can handle it.

I know guys that have been riding bikes for years and they have all stuck with 600s . They're a bit lighter, they're cheaper on insurance and they're still plenty fast . I mean how often are you really going to wind out a 1000 cc bike and do 250 MPH ??

Being your first bike , get a 600 . Its too easy to get too brave on a big bike , especially when you're a new rider.

How do you outgrow a full blown sportbike that does 70mph in first gear at redline. Its so overkill on any public road its not funny. Anyone who says they outgrow a 600cc supersport is a retard. What is the bike not allowing you to do and how is it limiting your riding? All this 600cc bashing is just guys w/ small penis syndrome saying they need something bigger to sound cool.

600 is plenty fast, but my opinion is look through the traders, find a year old 600rr and go take her for a test ride. then do the same for a thousand. buy what you like.

Street and Track are two different things....it also depends on how you choose to ride. Personally, I like having the additional torque that the bigger bikes provide. I CAN out ride the performance of a 600cc bike in a straight line....which I'd assume so can most other people. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with having a 600 if that is what you prefer, because I will agree 100% that you could put me on the fastest bike in the world, and anybody that knows what they are doing could beat me around a track on the weakest 600 you could find.

Anyway, with that said, here are the bikes I have owned...in order.

ninja zx6r
cbr 929
gsxr 750 / cbr f4i / gsxr 600 (all at the same time)
gsxr 1000 (current)

i say go out and ride a few different types of bikes (if you can get your hands on some), and see what style you prefer. there are people out there that are happy with 250's, so I can't tell you what you'd like best.

just go with whatever bike you feel most comfortable on. no one on here can tell you what bike to get. they dont know what your limits are.
