Hey would a set of 87 machined cases work on my 89 with stock length crank? They have been machined to handle big bore and stroker kit.

Yes they will work, only difference is you will have more volume in the crank area than a set of stock un-cut cases.

Well this affect performance or reliability at all?

Reliability none at all but performance wise it will be off just a hair from the extra volume. You may not even be able to tell or feel the difference in performance.
