Ok I just re-jetted my 400 and now it is running like crap. I put a 152 main and a 40 pilot in it. I think the pilot helped it b/c it starts easier now but I think I am to rich. It cuts out really bad in 3rd gear up when you get 1/2-3/4 to full throttle. It acts like it is running out of fuel but I have a full tank. It ran better with the stock jets but do you think I should go smaller than the stock 148 main? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tyler. Sorry for long post.

Full list of motor mods please. You have the lid on or off? What clip is your needle on. I would try 152-155 main, 40 pilot maybe a 42, 4th clip down on the needle 2 1/4 turns out from fully seated on the fuel screw, if you have the lid off that is.

The motor is stock. I have a K&N filter and the lid on right now. I didnt change the needle so it is in what ever stock is. I turned my a/f screw a extra half turn out from stock. If taking the lid off would solve it I will install a outerwears and leave it off. I just want it fixed.

Do you think this will keep me from being rich like I am if I take the lid off?

it sounds maybe like you are rich on the pilot jet. i have a 40 in mine at 1 3/4 turns out with an open airbox lid. as far as the needle moving the clip down will richen the main jet.

what sound is it making at full throttle. if it boggs it's rich. if it cuts out and pops it's lean on the main jet.

also pull the spark plug. if it's really black then it's rich. it should be a nice tan color.

you might even try going back to your stock pilot jet with the 152 main and see if that helps.

the only reason i put a 40 in mine was b/c it wasn't getting enough fuel with my open airbox lid for starting. if everything on yours is stock and you want to run it with your lid on i would put the stock pilot jet back in it at like 2 or 2 1/4 turns out.

I took the lid off and that really helped it. It gave it alot more bottom end but still runs out of gas in 3rd gear up on the top end. What I meant by running out of gas is it will start to die. So I am thinking that it may be like a cloged fuel line or bad petcock because the jetting is finally right and the carb is clean. But does the 400 have a sock type filter inside the tank? Thanks for the help, Tyler.

i'm not sure if they do or not. but there's only one way for you to find out. take it off and see.:D

The pick-up for the petcock (inside the tank) does have a filter built into it. Also, make sure your gas cap is venting properly.

Ok thanks for all the help. I have to get the valves adjusted so ill probably have them replace the petcock and go from there. Thanks agian, Tyler.
