Looks expensive ..
I know the MX version isn't out yet. But did Farr have to drop the Displacement of the 525?
Edit- I just seen the photo that says 450 xc.? How did that work?
Definitly a sweet looking machine.

Yeah id say KTM did there homework and didnt just put any old atv together. Is it just me but by looking at the 450xc the 450mx version will be the same thing just wider/lower and diff spring/valving setup on the ohlins shocks? I think im gonna have to wait now i was thinking about a can am ds450 but ktm builds some pretty solid stuff ready to race out of the box. hmmmmm

You've obviously never been around a 525.
A 450 will bolt right in place of a 525. And it looks like they used the same cases as the motorcycle engines so you have a very wide selection of engines you can use. There are actually three versions of the 525 and then there were revisions every couple of years. It's fun because you can mix and match parts to suit you. There are three different transmissions to choose from that you can swap into any of the RFS engines. One four speed and two six speeds. There might be four now that the quad is out. It's probably different than the motorcycle. The wide ratio EXC six speed will go over 120 MPH. There are different weight crankshafts and flywheels too. I can't wait to see the MX model. They have a new DOHC 450 motorcycle this year but it looks like they are going to use the RFS style engine instead, which is good because it is tried and true.

I will wait till the next production year before I think of buying one. Thats if I want to move away from my 250r's and 250r hybrid?? It looks very nice, time will tell how it holds up. If it comes race ready, not like the honda/yamaha/kawaski(where you have to spend $1000 to get the true motor performance and another $1000 on the the suspension), the extra ~2g's might be worth it. The suzuki ltr450 is the most race ready mx quad right now.

the price is not bad. when ktm brings a bike to the us the bugs have been worked out. there ktm 250 xcf you could buy it in europe for a couple of years now its in us. ktm does a great job with there new bike comeing so there isnt to many problems with them. i think it going to hold people back being a bike company comeing out with there first quad. i really starting to want one there quailty is unbeatable.

Have you guys even seen the specs on it yet?? There is no possible way to buy any 450 and mod it like the KTM is stock for even close to $9000.

yup 9000 is a steal for a race ready atv.
Dont forget a race ready ATK 450mx is 11,000.

IMO You could IF it didn't come with them nice Ohlins shocks. What really takes the cake on the KTM is the A-arms being adjustable and the shocks....Otherwise it would basically be kinda like a European copycat LTR450...

Yes, those do set it apart, but there are a lot more that the LTR doesn't have. Anti-vibe stem, tether, 2 stage cdi, much more HP and torque, lighter, high quality tires and wheels, reverse, and a 3.7 gal gas tank to just name a few.:macho

You got me there, cuz you can't add reverse to an LTR!!......I still feel that KTM isn't telling us that the frame is Chromoly though

That is true, I don't see the word chromoly in the list of specs. But considering it only weighs 6lbs more then the YFZ and has much heavier tires and wheels with reverse and no aluminum upper a-arms, chromoly seems to be very reasonable.:)

KTM knows how to build bikes. Just look at their dirt bikes and compare it to a Honda or Yamaha. I think my next bike will be a KTM, just hard to find parts and they are expensive.

Not really thrilled by it. It's a nice machine, and yes I'd buy one. The design looks to be a combination of all the other mfg's. Suzuki style seat, Honda Style tank, etc.
Right now, if money were not an option and the Can-Am and KTM's were available, I'd be purchasing in this order:
Can-Am
KTM 525
KTM450
ATK 450
Yamaha
Honda
Suzuki
Kawi
I'm betting the frame is chromoly not aluminum. No wave rotors?? I do like the a-arm design and it looks great ergonomically.
Not much NEW techology going on there if you ask me. They definitely didn't take as many steps forward as Can-Am has--they really want all out with the spindle/hub design and shock angles, etc.
The 525 version will be real screamer I'm sure.

54warrior I see your point but what if its more like they combined the best features of all the other 450's. But who really knows. One thing is for sure it will be fast without a doubt.

no effence but those ktm 450 and 525 motors make over 45 hp and yes the 525 is capible of crazy fast speeds stock ride one. they do over 100 and you have to get over your little 2 stoke binge man its getting rediculas take your bikes to a track anywhere in the northeast this summer and ill show you why everybodys riding 4 stokes.

^^^ the 525 will not make any more then 45 hp, it WILL be detuned, same with the 450 quad......quads and bikes are 2 different worlds. A 525 bike wont go over 100 mph stock either
Taken from KTMfs 525 EXC enduro motorcycle, the four-valve, liquid-cooled, electric-start, 510cc four-stroke is described by Polaris as the fastest-accelerating production quad engine with the most torque in its class. Top speed is said to be 76 mph (with stock gearing)
^^ so close to 100 mph huh???
oh and they are claiming about 50 HP AT THE CRANK...itll be somewhere in the mid-lower 40s at the rear wheels...omg so much power out of a 9 thousand dollar quad huh??
FHKracingZ
06-11-2007, 05:27 PM
haha. in dirt bikes a crappy rear suspension system is still 10x better then what a quad can handle... KTM is notorious for there pogo stick characteristic rear end on there bikes, and i might mention thats a no link system..KTM has now incorporaetd that in to there quad... hopefully walsh or somebody will make something good to change that up if its not any good.

I don't know, but my 06 450 exc hits 90mph and still has more to go. stock gearing and tire size, also. It doesn't take long at all for it to get to 80 mph. The quad will definetly be detuned, probably similar to how the 07 450/525 exc is, the pee shooter for an exhaust tip, restrictive intake and very lean carburator jetting.
some people dont understand how fast a TRUE 100 mph vehicle is offroad....going 100 in a car is one thing. But going 100 off road is something else. Just like going 60 mph on water is crazy fast! They will not make a stock ATV to do 100 mph, i doubt a MX bike would do 100 mph either. Take something liek that and go to the drag strip with very accurate times and speeds, alot of these 90 mph toys will be in the 81-85 mph range.
People that rode my banshee when it was all done up wouldhave beat their life it would have done 100 mph, but in reality it only did about 84-86 mph with 16 front tooth sprocket!
deathman53
06-11-2007, 06:32 PM
I have rode my dirtbike 80 mph offroad(as per the digital speedo on it) and it is scary!!!! On the road, going 80, doesn't feel like too fast. I regularly ride 50-60 mph on the train tracks, at first it really shakes your boots and scares the life out of you. When I ride my atc250r, 5th gear 14/36 gearing and 18" tires, will scare you to death and it probably really is going 70-75 tops. I have met people who say their banshee does 100+ mph, I told them if it goes so fast, you would most likely lose control by the time you hit 70-80 mph and you will need a big wide open space to get there too.

I topped out my bike fith gear pinned, I never been so scared before the front end starts wobbling and the whole bike shakes like a mofo. I was maybe doing 70 at top.:o

There is a law in the untied states, it states that
- An manufacture spec ATV cannot be sold if it is capable of doing over 75mph. That doesnt mean that it cant do more than 75 ever, just when its stock. Richen the carb a little, get a good free flowing exhaust and a K&N on it, maybe change the stock gearing.
Im willing to bet we can see some high 80's to mid 90's out of the 525 version....im not sure about the 450 version.
BTW, a guy down the road from me has a KTM 525 SX with nothing but gearing changes, and my dad and him did a ride by on the highway. He finally got even with us at 104 according to the speedo in my dads truck.
Id say that bike is more than capable of hitting 100mph:) :eek2:

well you can change the gearing in anything to make it have high MPH....alot of Xr650s and Cr500s could be 100 mph machines too, i am talking about STOCK, there isnt a stock machine that will do 100 mph, and this 525 quad will do about the same as all the other 450s, raptors and banshee....anywhere from 71-75 mph
