The 280 probly isn't gonna get you running with the 400's..The 330 kit, with cams, porting, valves, carb, and exhaust is what Greg builds to smoke the 400's.

CWR 280cc Kit

CWR .405 Top End Cams
Rocker Arms
Titanium Caps,Springs And Keepers
KLR CDI Box

If your gonna do all that, why not go ahead and go 330 and have the head ported?

I was gonna go 280 kit this year then move to the next class with a 330 then the 370 kit.

Spend money on the head porting and valves and cams thats where the power is, the larger size are displacmentand add torque and some HP, most HP gain from a 280 vs 330 is maybe 5 HP which is good, but you need the cases also done at 300 cc and up, 280cc High compression piston can add 3 to 4 HP ya will have to run race fuel anything above 11:5 to 1.

Greg at CWR does know his CHIT on Mojaves

ERBE is right about the port and polish. If your gonna tear it down and put valves and springs in, port and polish is only about 250.00 more, and you will get a lot more bang for the buck in addition to what your looking at to do now.

I'm doing the 280 kit, port and polish, 380 cams, and some other stuff myself.

The reseon I went with with the 280 kit was money. Didnt have enough for the 330, and it cost almost as much buy a new over sized piston and get the cylinder bored as the 280 kit from greg.

To me the mojave is a toy, I know thats gets some folks mad but I ride LT500 and a DS650 /720 anything past that 280 gets me nervous and the cost jumps up, I know CWR products are good and work, but my thoughts if i need a quad with that much more power get a 400 for 2000 to 3000 from there you have room to grow in the HP department.
just my 2 cents worth
