Just got a new bike, its an 07 TRX 400 EX. PAID 4250.00 OUT THE DOOR...NO TAX, ETC.. Bike runs pretty darn good...its very fun..

Ok so being new to this bike, what do i need to know...

What mods are essential in your opinion.

I don't want to break the bank...so bang for the buck is the name of the game.

My other choice was a honda 450r or yzf 450...I had the money, but this bike is going to be used for fun trail rides in PA and WV. The 450's just seemed too much work and not enough fun...so I went with this...and I think the price was right. What do you guys think?

4250.00 is a nice price:p i think the first mods you should do are deffinatly Nerf bars. then for engine get an HMF slipon and a UNI air filter.

I think the first one is going to be the hmf...the factory exhaust just sounds so weak...

Does this make it sound more like a race bike?

Sparks is a pipe "Curtis Sparks"

I think you got a good deal ....get a K&N air filter
No im not saying get that bcuz i do i know from experience you can buy a recharger kit for it and its ready to go again

I would look into White Bros

Don't think they make the DASA pipe for the 400.

As for as mods- Pipe (HMF,Sparks, White Brothers); Air Filter (K&N or Uni); Shocks (450r's are cheap, or go all out with some elka's, works, etc); Nerfs; and whatever else your heart desires.

Get acquainted with what you have now then figure out what you want to do as far as upgrades. (Shocks, steering stabilizer, a-arms, tires, etc.)

ive i were you, suspension would be on the top of my list. +2 a arms, 450r front shocks get em revalved & rebounded, and then a +2 rear axle, rear linkage and then get the back shock revalved & rebounded too, and then id get an exhaust..but thats just my 2 cents..you have an awesome quad on your hands, treat her well;)

great advice from all...really appreciated...

I have decided not to mod till the warrenty is out. :) Right now, what im looking for is a little more aggressive pickup in 1st and 2nd and some more top end speed in 5th. Also it has to sound better! Like a racing quad. Not a like my moms 350 utility bike..well ok it does sound a little better then that factory...I think you all know the sound im looking for! :)

deff rejet for easier starting... take the airbox lid off and adjust the slack out of your throttle cable. prob not even getting full throttle. you can also take the chrome cap off the muffler. all can easilly be put back on. that should hold you for a little while :D :) ;) :p

for a new 07 that is a good price who the hell thinks its too much? i can see for a left over 05 maybe but still for brand new that is a good price, you must be cheap if you think that is expensive for a new quad and have a 92 beater you ride.

If you're riding the woods in PA the first thing I'd buy is a good set of six ply tires. The trails around here will chew up and spit out a set of stock tires in no time. No tires=no ride..

best mods to start with would be.. gripper seat.. nerf bars.. handlebars.. grips and a bumper to protect your a arms(if you do alot of trail riding)..

oh forgot to add what the best first mods would be....pipe/jettin and air filter first, then nerfs, suspension and tires, and then do motor work.

Batavia's450r
06-09-2007, 12:49 PM
get nerfs first broken legs suck and itl help it will be a bit safer... then exhaust... the stock filter breaths fine just keep it clean... and then ride it and decide for yourself wat you feel would be a good upgrade with your riding style

Couldn't agree more with this! These were already purchased, just not going to mount them till i rip the factory...why waste new tires.

Good thought...

The back was picked up by my dad to take back to WV where we have a large farm. As soon as my wife has our 1st kid, I will get to ride it again. Until then, I will miss it. :)

Its like getting a new toy but not being able to play with it for a mth....

Also, I don't have a problem starting mine. I use the directions in the owners manual and it seems fine. Today it was pretty warm out. I started it at choke setting one, let it idle for a few mins, then set to off and it was fine the rest of the day. Do many people have trouble getting them started?

Too good of a deal! I can see perhaps $5,250 but, seriously doubt you got an 07' for $4,250. I'd have to see a reciept. Anyone else feel the same way?

Got mine brand new for 4500 before the '05s were out... But we also got 2 of em then....So...Myth is plausible.

I say the myth is BUSTED! The 08' models are not out yet and the MSRP on a new 07' is $5,999. There is NO WAY he got a brand new 07' for $4,250. Either he got a REPO or that's not the true out the door cost. I'd need to see proof.

All, it wasn't bought from a showroom! It had one owner that never rode it. I can show the receipt and registration at 4250.00

He paid 5500.00

Sorry for the misunderstanding...

Make more sense now.

mods for pa trails...notice i am in pa and know that i ride trails 90% of the time...

to begin with, adjust the levers, throttle and pedals to where you are comfortable

1st-chassis skid and swing arm skid...the chassis skid can eb of any thinkness, but the swing arm skid needs to be .250 thick or it will ebnd into your rotor and sprocket. i suggest armadillo and prm

2nd-suspension/steering/control-get a steering stabilizer...the stick type such as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Honda-TRX-400EX-Steering-Stabilizer-Damper-L-K_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43972QQihZ015QQitemZ2 50125915472QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW will do. it will take away the jerkiness of the bars when you bump a log or rock on the side. ther rear shock needs ome work...revalve it so it don't buck up on you anymore...you will notice this the first time you jump it...the rear end will come up after take off and the bike will nose down on you. then you will notice the fronts needs some work...elka rec series shoul,d be fine for your needs...gripper seat covers keep you planted on the bike and in control...after a while you may realize that the stock bars could use differnt bends or heights...that is when you take care of that.

now that you have the suspension set to handle the power you have and even more than you have, time to do some performance mods...any aftermarket filter(and keep it clean) with a full exhuast will help out there...

ya already have new tires and know whenyou want to put them on...so....

casey_lamm
06-10-2007, 11:38 AM
Also, I knew the owner that bought it...so I know what he told me was true. As well the bike was mint, all the little fringe things were on the tires, and they even had that red/orange oil pen ring still on them.

I didn't mean to imply that it was bought from a dealer...my mistake...

that being said, it still should be a great deal.

At the same time I picked this up I looked at a 05 with 10hrs on it so the dealer says (i have my doubts) I got them down to 3500 before I gave up and went w/the 07.

Out the door was that I didn't have to pay tax...but I can see how it was taken...sorry about that...

I live in Huntingdon. I guess thats about a three hour trip. right? You gotta deal and your 400. Get nerfs and at least a swingarm skid first, then a chasis skid if you have enough money. I have a pro armour swing arm skid .25 thickness.
