I don't remember all the details, but It was based on a Polaris 400 Scrambler/Sport. Used 250R geometry suspension and I think PEP shocks. Any information and pictures would be great.

For what they were the old Polaris scrambler 400s with a pipe and clutch were pretty fun to ride.... i could only imagine having that punchy 2smoke auto power in a nice handling bike.... im interested???

You can look for almost any Polaris 400 2 stroke for the engine. They used them in Explorers, Scramblers, Sports, Trail Blazers, some even in the 6x6 models. They're supposed to be easily hopped up to the 70hp mark.

what chassis can you put them in only hpd? or could you make one work in said a trx 250r chassis and switch the chain to the other side and some other modifications

It's just like any other hybrid in that aspect. TRX, YFZ, Cannondale, KFX, Predator it's a frame to start with. It's just getting everything packaged nicely.

does the trx 250r or trx 400ex have enough room to cram everything from the polaris in?

Those are awesome! I had talked about building one of those in a 250R frame a few years ago for flat track. I had a Polaris 400 sport that had mild stuff done to it, and it was pretty dang fast. I can imagine one with some serious work done in a good handling chassis. My buddy talked me out of it though, but now the wheels are turning again! haha

my brother built his sport with 250r geometry suspension and a honda round housing rear end when he was in pheonix. he still has everything for it but its in boxes. ill jump on the old comp and post some pics if i can find some but that thing was faaaassssssttttttt. and whoever said lightly modded 70 hp was right. His dynoed and figured to about 80 horse at the crank.

hpd is still in business, but i dont think the chassis are still in production, but they do have the jigs

the one i posted is actually for sale for 5k, i wish i had the cash right now to spend on a toy, 75hp claimed on the dyno....i think id mount some 250r plastics on it , do some pc and have 1 badass quad

woodsracer144
01-05-2010, 09:38 PM
5K is high for a stock travle quad, and its not even mint... it would be diff. if the plastic wasnt beat and it looked like a factory quad... but its not... i think that it would be easy to build one of these... the chassis might be a little longer then a OE 250r...

there 1 of a kind, not like 250r hybrid, ive seen them for 4000 rolling chassis but not complete

wouldnt be very easy to make one, exhaust is for the chassis only, transmission is chassis only, chains opposite side, youd basically have to build the chassis ground up if you were skilled enough or take the oem chassis and work a modern front end setup into it, and maybe a different swingarm and rear shock

im not positive its stock travel, thats not a big deal anyhow, std travel...long travel if the shock is setup right its fine, sitting on national a class pro am or pro they migth be able to appreciate a refined setup but most c and b and some of the a riders dont have the ability established to appreciate a good setup

its in need of some pc and plastics and it would be a nice looking ride

i think i could get it done with a scrambler or sport chassis, just need to cut out the front end and weld in a clip for the trx arms and such, the rear end i think would be fine cause its a no link, just need to work on the angle of the shock and what shock is in there...

but if you wanted the honda plastics that might be alittle harder, i think i could get it in a TRX chassis, the guy would just have to shorten up the front rails where the front motor mount are, have them as low as poss. so that way the motor would sit up closer,

if i had the money and parts at had, i could do it, i know i could, but like you said, the hard part would be the swinger, it would be sweet if you could take the trx swinger and do a 180* with it, but then you have to watch where you route the brake line so its not cut and some other small things... i wonder if you could flip it around to the chain is on the left, make the motor run backwards, timing would be 180*.... but one way or the other its still alot of work...

alot of guys do that, but the geometry and cog isnt as good as the hpd chassis

forgot to mention the one posted above is a re worked sport/scrambler chassis

the sprocket is on the transmission.... no way your turn the motor around, the chain would have to go past the motor to get to the rear end...

the hpd chassis takes a diff tranny and exhaust as well...so really your better off modding your sport /scrambler 400 or going all out hpd one...id sure like to get my hands on the purple one i posted
