OK guys, i have an 86' R , and i've only had it for about a week. Recently i was screaming down the old rail road tracks in 6th and she just shut off on me. Orginally i thought it was the plug, but i checked it and it still had spark and it dident look fouled. So i kno my coil and plug are good. I dont know what else it could be. Im new to the R scene, and my only past 2 stroke reference was a Blaster. So PLEASE. HELP THE NEWBIE!

How long did you have it wide open? Might have toasted a cyclinder

not THAT long, i mean it was only a small straight stretch, and i made sure i dident hold it wide open. Probably 100 yds maybe

Does it seem to have compression? A R is pretty easy to work on. I would just pop the head off and take a look inside. Or you could take the instake and exhaulst off and take aflash light and look at the piston. If you see dark streaks down the wide on the piston, its prally blown

It still has spark. I would think it wouldn't if that was the case

The gas is on, right?:p I would check for a fuel problem before I disassembled the head. Make sure the fuel line has full flow and the needle/seat in the carb aren't plugged.

what color was the plug when ya looked at it? make sure the gas vent tube isnt clogged. i'd also check the reeds. make sure ya didnt digest one in the engine.

Yeh man, fuel in the tank and put it on reserve.

you need 3 things to make a 2 stroke run...compression, spark and gas...put a new plug in it, check the compression... might want to check your reeds too...

I had that happen once, took me forever to figure out. It turned out to be that the main jet in the carb had backed off and fell out into the bowl. Hope your problem is as cheap to fix as mine was:cool:

I had the same problem with my R once i checked everything and replaced everything i could think of to help it was not cheap. It had spark and compression but i got nothing. it turned out that i had sheared off the key that holds the flywheel in time and it had turned on the shaft a 2.00 key was the problem. hope you get your R going

dude pul your reed cage out and your head off(the top part not the whole thing) i had this happen to me on my blaster, its in your reeds.. i bet you... i had mine pinned for a little while, i had spark, comp, all that, i tried every thing so i ulled the carb checked it, it was goo, so i pulled the cage, and it was BAD, my bottom right pettal snapped right off. i think thats your prob, just check to make sure it didnt go in to your head and ding up your piston, min did a little but nothing to hurt the performance of it...
