I am about to start buying parts. I am going to put in a stage 1 HC and a crf chain. My question is, what year of a CRF chain do I need? its a 450 rite? Im also going to replace the chain guides and tensioner while in there. Do the stock guides fit with the bigger chain?

I tried to search but I couldnt find what year of crf

thanks

All years CRF450R use the same cam chain. All years CRF450X and the 06+ TRX450R/ER also use this same cam chain.

Ill second what gpracer2500 said ,everyone says you need to get it for a 2002 and that's what i did but i did look them up before i bought one and the part #s are the same for all year's so your safe to order any year good luck and order it from Service Honda their the cheapest that i found anyways.

I just dropped 300 bucks and got the cam, chain, tensioner, guides and right side cover gasket. Does the cam cover also have a gasket or does this just use honda bond?

when you say cam cover you mean Valve cover? if so. yours should have a metal gasket from factory. i have been reusing mine for almost 3 years now. and no leaks. so you should be good to go.

Here's what I do for that metal gasket:

Make sure the head and cover sealing surfaces are clean. Clean both sides of the gasket with steel wool and then apply an extremely thin coat of gasket sealer (I use Threebond 1211 for this). Basically, spread a little on and then wipe practically all of it off. It will look like there's hardly any left on there. But "hardly any" is all that's needed as long as there aren't any gouges or similar flaws in the sealing surfaces. This works well for me when using 1211. Other products probably work similarly.

When installing a new gasket, nothing but the gasket and clean surfaces should be necessary for it to seal. And as 03pissedoff426 suggested, even a used gasket may seal fine dry but I've always used a little bit of sealer so I couldn't say.

ok cool, thanks guys. The only reason that I would even replace it is because there is a slight seepage from the right front corner. Not a big deal but I might as well fix it while im there. cheers

Oh and as far as jetting is concerned, with a stage 1 cam should I bump up to a 158 or a 160? As it is with a 155 I am running a tad on the rich side..
