I'm going to gettysburg with some friends in a little more than a week and we are going to go mountain biking. I've got a bmx bike and it won't do me anygood out there, so what kind and brand of bike do you suggest that would be suitable? I was looking more into the hardtails....

Id get whatever is comfortable....go to a locla bike shop and sit on some models that catch your eye. Then go home and see if you can get it cheaper on the net. If you cant, go back and buy that biek from the shop, they will totally customize the fit for you (seat to crank reach, seat to bar reach, tension of cables, ect...)

Good luck...im trying to get rid of my BMX bike and buy a mountian bike to get me from point to point....

how much are you looking to spend? if you only plan on using it on this trip then it would be a waste of money getting a kona or something like that. but if you guys plan on going frequently then invest in a better bike from the start. but definatly go to your local bike shop so they can size you up on a bike that would fit. its hard to check out bikes over the net without really getting a feel for them. from what ive seen people at bike shops are super friendly and will explain as much as you need so you get the right bike. and believe it or not, bike maintenence is VERY important. keep your chain and derailers lubed and clean or else you could be stranded on the trail and ruin your day :ermm: ....carry extra tubes and a co2 cartridge setup to air up tires quickly...also carry any tools that you may need to do simple repairs...you might have that all setup already but better to be safe than sorry..hope that helps a little

i have a 2004 specialized p.1 and i love it!!! Mine does have 800$ in aftermarket stuff but stock its still great at anything. I did some downhill runs and it was as fast as 3000$ downhill bikes. I highly reccomend ithttp://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t227/BlaineKaiser450/Pictures10-14-06100.jpg[/IMG

I picked this up about a month ago, it's a 17.5, Its the second smallest but i like it because i can manouver it where ever i want and i can ride wheelies for ever. I baught the bike thinking i was going to use it as an incline stunt bike but its awesome for exercise, like 45 minute bike rides non stop. It's amazing in the woods too.

I paid 850 after taxes and everything and its the best 850 ive spent to this day. If you want to mountain bike, get some different peddles, my peddles have already shred my leg apart, ill try to get pics up.
