Im thinking about gettting a Raptor that someone has for sale in my area...It is a 2001 with an exhaust. The only problem is i have heard the 01's have had tranny issues..I asked him about that and he stated that he has never had a problem and didnt get it upgraded or fix when he had the quad..Is this a problem you think, what was wrong with the tranny's that year and do you think i should buy it and risk it and if it messes up just fix it..

It all depends on price. If you can get for such a good deal that even if you end up replacing the trans (600-800 for parts only) you still come out cheaper than buying an 02-05 then I'd seriously consider it. But if you can get a newer bike for a few hundred more it's certainly not worth the risk IMO.

All 01's have the 3 dog gear that breaks
the 02/05 they put 4 dogs on the weak
gear by doing this they changed the
gear ratio

yeah mines over the 5000 mark its 5332 i think but all of the 2001's had problems with the carb boots and on raptorforum i was told the trans problem runs into the 20,000 mark so maybe im just lucky i dunno but i beat the weeeeee out of it and no shifting problems and as soon as my pool table sells its getting a stroker 720 and ill see how it holds up

btw my comment wasnt directed tward you bigdog it was directed at mikeypaines89 for stating they have faulty carbs which is untrue the carb boots are crap not the carbs although the cv carbs are junk they are still better than the single edelbrock when building a big power engine but fcr's is always the way to go when doing that
