do they make a gas ported piston? i have a sponser threw wiseco called them they said they didnt make one but they can do it to the 12.5 to 1 piston we ordered for the ex so thats whats theyre doing now...
i run a gas ported 13.5 to 1 in my R and it seems to run very nicely with it i also run gapless rings is it a good idea to do this on the ex? just with normal rings my builder said not a bad idea

What? Are you thinking the 400EX is a two-stroke? I have never seen a gas ported piston in a 4 stroke... but then I could be wrong, after all thanks to GPracer2500 I would have never thought there would be reeds in a four stroke...

Most likely he's talking about lateral gas ports. They are a piston feature that improves ring seal.

I have an aftermarket VR piston (CP custom cut) in my YFZ. The oil ports really help in oiling the wrist pin for longer life.

If given the option, I would have both done on any piston I installed.

that seems like a pretty good idea if your racing only. I might just go with total seal rings tho...its your choice

if i had a choice, id get a piston that is gas ported. all that it is, is when someone drills some small holes from the top of the piston into the ring land. some of the compressed gases go through the holes and push the rings outward, thus providing a better seal between ring and cylinder wall.
