revalved front suspension

So with all the discussion lately about revalving Elka's etc., if a guy was to buy himself a set of Works AT Steelers up front, and had them sent in to be revalved at GT (or whoever), would brands like Elka still prevail performance wise right out of the box? If you sent those same Elka's in, and had the same work done to them, are they still that much better, or are you getting similar products once they are upgraded at a shop?

I guess it actually doesn't matter to much, as I don't believe they make long travel which is what I need anyway, but I guess you could apply the theory to other brands that do make LT shocks.
