I have water coming out of a hole under my water pump cover. What do I need to replace to fix this?? I pulled my water pump cover off and you can't get to it that way. Do I have to pull that whole side cover off?? In the manul the water pump has a seal ( #5 ). Any help would be great.

Its a sign that you have a bad water pump seal (the outer one). To change it all you have to do is pull off the water pump cover and impeller. Pop the old one out with a screwdriver and push the new one back in. A tip, get the 06 CRF450 impeller it has a hole in it that eliminates the vacuum effect that the older impellers created. This will make your seals last longer and it will fit on any prior year CRFs.

It could also be the bearing, causing the shaft to have too much slop which prematurely causes the seal to fail. You can replace the seal first, it's easy to replace. If that does not fix your problem, replace the seal, shaft and bearing all together.
