where to start depends on what you want to do. i'd take the body off the frame and clean up/paint the chassis, do a motor/trans swap or clean them up then start dropping the prepped body pieces on it. check all the fitment then paint and reassemble, interior is last in my book. what is it going to be? street truck or show?

i wanna make it more like a street truck.. and add some modern stuff.. like flowmaster exhuast or somthin and stuff like that..

my dad just wants a restoration.. so you basically cna call it a sttreeet truck

I would put a bed on it bigger wheels and tires a 6 inch lift. It's a 4x4,that motor has alot of torque and the trans has a granny 1st gear.It would make a good off road truck.

well im pretty sure she'll be a street truck.. he did have it jacked up at 1 time but i never saw it..

And everyones like oh ditch the straight 6 and thro a V8 in there and all that ****!

Will be nice when its done.. i wanna do somthin special with the paint like bluw like it is or a little darker and do like some racin stripes and kinda fade them into the paint..

and im lookin for a bed for it. so it will look like a stock truck body wise

IMHO, don't put a bed on it.

When it comes to older trucks, nothin looks better that a jacked up flatbed 4x4. Paint it blue how it is, black flatbed, v8 swap, 6 inch lift on some 35's and you have a kick***** truck. Maybe a couple chrome stacks through the flatbed behind the cab on both sides. That's how I'd build it.

HAHA.. nah.. think were gonna keep it stock or droped in the front just a little bit.. Give it that street rod look

I have a 78 f-150 that 2wd that i am in the process of rebuilding. I’m going the other route from street truck with 8 inch lift probably 38 inch tires and what not. I started by getting a 4wd frame and running gear, stripping it, painting it, refreshing the motor then put the motor and tranny in, fixed all the floors and braces of the cab, put the cab on, put the front clip on, and now I have mainly body work left to do and all the extras i want to put into it like the lift. I basically started with two trucks the 78 f-150 2wd (complete truck) and a 74 f-250 highboy that I used the frame from. its a fun project to do if you've never done anything like this, its my first truck resto project also.

This is how it sits now

i have a single long glass pack on mine just for now and i dont really like the way it sounds . its pretty quite and not to deep. i plan on getting dual flomasters and stacks. i have a 400 in mine.

i got dual glass packs on my chevy and it sounds like chit in my opinion. may sound better on urs. i'd go with the 2 chamber flows 40 series. they sound awesome on anything.

are u gonna stick a 351 in it or are u going bigger?

Mine has a 400 in it, and i live the glass pack on mine, but differnt strokes for differnt folks i guess, flowmasters sound good on them to, but i always liked the real good deep roar from the glass packs.

a good 351 m,c or w would be nice in it if u want a v-8 that is.
or a 360 or 390 also, but that old straight 6 will hold old just fine also with a little tunning.

but the 351 modified has had problems with the rear main bearings going out ( witch is basicly a 400 big block ).

my dad has a few old fords with a dome head 302, a 351 m, and a 360. they have been pretty good engines for the most part.

also i am guessing the truck u have has the old bull dog tranny right? if so it is pretty much bullit proof.

also ford for that year had 2 colors that where a light green and a light blue. i had a 79 light green truck with a 351 cleveland in her.

hope this helps.

Looks cool, but if your keepin the straight 6 i dont know if id have flowmasters, if you do get t go with si/so or it will sound like crap.MY truck is a 97 w/ a si/so flowmaster 40 (american thunder not the super) the thunder is supposed to be their loudest, its not bad although i also have to cats removed and the remaing to replaced with magnaflow high flows...ill have to get a vid some time.

You may have seen 1 of my old threads asking for exhaust opinions, its sound good but V6's tend to sound to raspy w/ exhaust.

if its just gonna be for streetin and maybe the occasional romp in the woods (meaning lift and big tires) stick with the straight six and the stock tranny those things are bullet proof we have a 79 that is all original except for some 33's on wagon wheels and its still going strong but if your gonna go straight street with a possible drop then do the V8

Roger that. Though I might leave the flat bed on it. Looks like a 4x4 to me and that 300 straight-six with the 4-speed manual is as bullet proof as it gets. I'd lift that bad boy and put 35s on it. Forget making it a hot rod. This thing is the epitome of a truck.
