Are the spindels the same from the 300ex to the 400ex???

No. They have a different mounting point for the tie rods and I'm sure there are other differences as well.

The spindles WILL bolt on but they are not going to work properly. Your caster/camber would most likely be off and with the tie rods in a different location you would probably see an increase in bumpsteer as well.
